I have to say, based on the adverts and all the build-up, I expected Downton Abbey to have been a bit more wrapped up last night than it turned out to be. I suppose Mary getting married was something, even if it did happen ridiculously quickly, but all their declarations of love fell a bit flat cos Henry's left no impression on me whatsoever and it felt like their wedding came out of nowhere. I know their romance has supposedly been building all season, but it hasn't felt like it. (In fact this is the first time all year I've actually remembered his name, which says a lot about how invested I've been in this storyline!)

At least they finally acknowledged that Mary might have some issues being married to a man who races cars when her first husband died in a car crash. Of course this only merited a short scene and then it was all forgotten again, but still. That's probably the best you can hope for with Downton now.

And I still think Bertie's going to go back to Edith. That's going to happen in the Christmas special. It has to.

Anyway, onto the November meme. Topic 5 is Favourite Romantic Pairing:

Now, I know I've been saying that pretty much every single topic so far is a tricky one, but this is definitely the hardest yet. Shipping is such a huge part of my fandom life and, as with TV shows, I usually go through stages of being super obsessed with a ship for a while before finding a new one and becoming super obsessed with that, but just because my super-obsession has moved on doesn't mean that I don't still love the old pairings or ship them any less. So rather than trying to pick one, I'm going to go with a top ten eleven in no particular order:

1. Eleven/River (Doctor Who)
2. Roslin/Adama (BSG)
3. Sydney/Vaughn (Alias)
4. Willow/Tara (Buffy)
5. Michael/Sara (Prison Break)
6. Chuck/Sarah (Chuck)
7. Xena/Gabrielle (Xena)
8. Castle/Beckett (Castle)
9. Max/Logan (Dark Angel)
10. Mulder/Scully (The X Files)
11. Brennan/Booth (Bones)

Even this was difficult and I keep thinking of other pairings that I could have put on the list. I may have a bit of a shipping problem...

I didn't feel well today so I spent most of my afternoon curled up on the sofa watching episodes of Chuck while the dog and the cat cuddled up to me. It was a nice way to spend a Saturday.

Also, I have just seen the Coca Cola advert. That means it is officially Christmas.

Four Days

This holiday weekend I have been mostly:

- Sitting on the patio to make the most of the lovely weather. In fact that is where I am right now. Next to me I have a glass which used to contain ginger beer but which is now empty. Alas.

- Watching Bones. Well, two episodes. They were good, although I still don't really get this whole rogue sniper storyline that came out of nowhere.

- Watching Chuck. I love Chuck. I think what I love most about Chuck is that it's a happy programme. You can watch it safe in the knowledge that everything will be all right in the end, good will triumph over evil, the people you love will be happy and Chuck and Sarah will be together.

- Watching 'William and Kate: The Movie'. Now, I went into this knowing that it was going to be amazingly bad but I simply wasn't prepared for just how excruciatingly dire it was going to be. It had everything you could hope for in an American TV film about British royals. Terrible accents! American plug sockets in supposedly British houses! Prince William publicly singing karaoke to apologise for ignoring Kate at his birthday party! The University of St Andrews apparently being renamed St Andrews College and looking absolutely nothing like the university that I visited a few years ago! Constant references to university as 'school'! (It's that last one that got to me the most. If I'd had a drink for every time I shouted "We don't call university 'school', you idiots!" at the TV I'd have been completely wasted before the film was halfway through.)

- Sorted out my room. And by 'sorted out' I mean 'moved stuff from one big pile into other, slightly more organised piles.' That's really the only way I do any kind of tidying up.

- Sleeping weirdly. Apparently my body has decided that during the holidays I need to wake up around 4, stay away until around 8 and then, just when I'm thinking I could probably get up at this point, become so tired I can't keep my eyes open until around 10:30. It's rather annoying.

- Building puzzleballs. Two today.

- Watching Doctor Who. I should have mentioned it earlier but I forgot. Possibly because it was a bit of a blah episode that didn't exactly grab my attention. Hopefully it'll be better next week.

HEY GUYS, IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, ROUND ONE HAS STARTED OVER AT [livejournal.com profile] f_march_madness! YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTERS NEED YOUR HELP!

IF YOU DON'T WATCH THE SHOWS, THEN MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS NEED YOUR HELP!

ALSO SAMANTHA CARTER AND CHLOE SULLIVAN. THEY HAVE NO CHANCE AGAINST SCULLY AND OLIVIA, BUT THEY'RE STILL AWESOME AND DESERVE SOME LOVE.

AND I THINK I CAN OFFICIALLY SAY THAT I'M NOT GOING TO WIN THE OFFICE POOL! I SERIOUSLY OVERESTIMATED THE LEVEL OF KONO SUPPORT. WHILE I'M HAPPY THAT BRENNAN IS WINNING HER POLL SO THOROUGHLY, IT DOES COMPLETELY SCREW UP MY BRACKET!

It's MARCH!

I've caught up on Chuck season 3! Yay! The DVD boxset is truly one of the most glorious inventions of our time.

I'm half tempted to do picture recaps for it like I did with Prison Break, but it's a lot of work for something no one will actually read.

Speaking of Prison Break though, I couldn't help but notice certain similarities:

Cut For Rambling and Spoilers for all of Prison Break and Season Three of Chuck )

Also, I need to get me some Chuck icons.

So, the current [livejournal.com profile] picspammy challenge is Fifty and as I'm a big shipper I thought doing 50 Shippy TV Moments would be a good idea. I've never actually posted to the community before so I'm a bit nervous about this though.

Anyway, here's the picspam. I hope you like it! And if you disagree with any of my choices or think I've left any obvious ones out please say so in the comments.

Fandom post ahead! I'm not sure if anyone on my friends list is actually going to be interested in this, but I've written it and I'm going to post it.

This list came about because I was watching a programme about the greatest TV shows of the decade. It was a terrible list that made no sense and made me quite angry so I decided to write my own. But instead of TV programmes I decided to do pairings that I’ve supported from the past ten years. They bring me squee and sadness in equal measure yet I still ship my little heart out.

The Rules: For a ship to be included it must have existed, at least in part, during the ten years spanning 2000 to 2009. So ships from programmes that started in the nineties and ran into the noughties are ok, but ships from programmes that finished before 2000 are not, even if I discovered/continued shipping them in the noughties. (Sorry Maddie/David.)

Because there was no way I was going to be able to put these in order of preference (I love them all!) I’ve listed them in chronological order instead:

You have to be with the person you love. )
