Thanks to the Doctor Who Festival, I have fallen quite a bit behind in the November meme so I'll try to answer a few of the topics today:

8. Favourite childhood memory

Perhaps it's an odd one, but I have this memory of sitting in my grandparents' front room in Rye. My brother and I had pushed two chairs together to make a sort of boat that we were sitting in. Beside us we had a box of various sweets that we'd bought from Jempsons earlier, using the tiny little children's trollies they had there, and we were eating sweets while watching TV while sitting in our chair boat and I just remember feeling so happy and content.

9. Favourite childhood cartoon

So many to choose from, but I adored Postman Pat. Our first cat was black and white, so naturally we called her Jess.

10. Favourite video game

If we're talking PC then the Monkey Island games. They were just so good. And actually my memory of playing Monkey Island on the computer in the conservatory could be a contender for topic 8. We had a tin of sweets out there that I ate so many of while playing the game that they became known in my mind as 'Monkey Island sweets'.

If we're talking consoles, then I'd probably go with Lego Harry Potter. More recent, but still so much fun.

Ok, so now that I'm on my way to being a confident, social, non-anxiety-ridden, human being I thought it would be a good time to start making an effort to actually go out and do things, rather than missing out on stuff I'd like to do because I'm too scared. (Such as the official Doctor Who convention.)

But the thing is I still don't want to do these things on my own. I would like company. But I also don't want to drag people to things they don't really want to go to.

So I have decided to make a post, an open invitation, wherein I list things I would like to do and if anyone is interested and would like to do them with me, leave a comment and we'll see what we can organise. :)

Things I Would Like To Do and Would Like To Have Someone To Do Them With:

See Titanic 3D at the cinema.
Go to the Harry Potter studio tour in London.
Go to the 11th Hour convention in Birmingham (15th-17th June)

Those are the main things on my mind at the moment. If I think of anything else I'll make another post.

So... any takers?

Ok, it's time. I am already tired, which isn't a good sign. And the cat keeps trying to jump on my laptop. I'm not sure if he wants to write his own posts or just stop me from saying anything. Either way he's not happy with me for shifting him off.

Hey, Tonks from the Harry Potter films is on the discussion panel. Cool.

Lucy Cotter is on the red carpet. Hopefully she'll have better luck this year since I seem to remember that last time she was in such a bad position that we had to cut to an American feed in order to actually see anything. Judging by how few people are around her I'm not hopeful.

Hmm, I don't think I'm going to last. I'm thinking about recording it and watching it tomorrow when I get in from work. It's not quite the same, which will be a shame, but I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy it tonight and what's the point of forcing myself to watch something I'm not going to enjoy?

Of course if I find out who's won it won't be as fun either, but I can try to avoid that. It'll be like that episode of How I Met Your Mother where they record the Superbowl and try to make it through the day without finding out who won. (I'm not hopeful about my chances for that either. Especially not with the big awards.) QQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

And those 'Q's are from McGee, who is once again trying to climb on my laptop. I think he's judging me.

Time for my annual New Year's memes. I'm feeling a bit tipsy at the moment because we didn't finish the champagne last night so I've taken it upon myself to make the sacrifice and drink the rest of it today. I hope my answers still make sense.

Day 24

I am slowly making my way through Lego Harry Potter years 5-7. I'm always impressed by the way the creators manage to make the dark moments suitable for a children's game. In fact, dead Dumbledore is one of the funniest things I've seen so far.

Day 17

crystalcazzie: (DW Eleven/River)
The next few days are looking particularly good for me:

Friday - Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 comes out. I've been looking forward to this from the very instant I completed Years 1-4.

Also Friday - Children in Need. Always a good show and promises to include a Doctor Who short, which I'm sure is going to be awesome and may just tide me over until Monday.

Saturday - No plans, so I'm free to spend hours playing Lego Harry Potter.

Sunday - Planning to see Breaking Dawn Part 1 with two of the guys from work. It's going to be hilarious.

Monday - Doctor Who series 6 box set comes out with extras including the Night and the Doctor mini-episodes that have had me worked up into a wibbly-wobbly ball of excitement and anticipation ever since I found out they existed.

In this entry I'm going to be getting upset about Pottermore. I'm putting it behind a cut because I'm embarrassed to be making a fuss about a silly online game that doesn't really matter, but I still want to say it.

The Harry Potter Blu-rays are available for pre-order.

Given the choice between the normal Blu-ray set for £33 and the shiny limited numbered edition Blu-ray + DVD set for £67... I went for the shiny. I did consider being sensible but... it's so pretty!

And it comes with a collectable retrospective photo album. Clearly I made the right choice!

Hey everyone, thank you for the birthday wishes! I'm sorry for taking so failtastically long to reply to them, but I did read them on the day and I greatly appreciate them all! =D

I feel like making a bullet point entry, so here we go:

* Last weekend I continued my birthday celebrations by going to London. Saturday saw a visit to the Tower of London during the day and the imbibing of many cocktails during the evening. Very good way to spend a day.

* I caught up with Saturday's episode of Doctor Who yesterday. It was sad. But I don't understand why the handbots refused to believe Amy was an alien. The people of the planet obviously knew that aliens existed and that space travel happened. That bugged me.

* Rizzoli & Isles started in the UK a couple of days ago. But because I'm feeling far too impatient to wait a week between each episode I've bought the region one DVDs. I want to see the gay Bones dammit!

* I have Monkey Island on PS3. I haven't played it yet but I'm looking forward to some awesome nostalgia.

* My wireless connection is currently being an irritating little shit and keeps coming and going every few minutes. It's exceedingly annoying. (This is part of the reason why I haven't been on LJ much this past week. And why it took me about half an hour to reply to four comments!)

* I still haven't had my Pottermore welcome email. This early entry thing is starting to look pretty pointless. :(
crystalcazzie: (Merlin - Ruling Pendragons)
Every August I like to take a week off work. I consider it my Summer Holiday, even if I don't actually go anywhere.

Today is the last day of my Summer Holiday. As is usual for me I spent most of the time doing puzzles, building Lego (Knight Bus FTW!) and baking. This means that the past week has involved a rather unhealthy diet of chocolate rum pots, meringues, chocolate chessboard biscuits and blackberry dessert. Dad and I picked the blackberries ourselves and I still have a lot left over to do something else with. Probably crumble. Everybody likes crumble.

Also, cocktails. I've been trying out new ones and expanding my repertoire in that area. Pretty soon I'll be a cocktail machine. Although not literally, cos that would be weird. But having a cocktail machine would be pretty sweet. Hmm... Once I figure out exactly how one of those would work I'm totally going to take it on Dragons' Den and make millions.

Oh. Apparently it already exists. And it costs £35,000. Damn. If only I'd invented it first, then I could afford one.

(Of course I do have a birthday coming up. Just saying...)

From my 2010 Questions Meme: 6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010? The Lego Hogwarts Castle. (lol, easily pleased!)

Today I built the Lego Hogwarts Castle. This year is already awesome!

Although not for my brother. He's halfway through a skiing holiday and today he phoned us from an ambulance! He'd fallen badly and called again later to give us the news that he's dislocated and fractured his shoulder. Ow.

In completely unrelated news, there's now a Battlestar Galactica Online game. I tried it yesterday but gave up after five minutes because it was so unbelievably boring. Maybe it would have been better if I'd been a Colonial. (I chose Cylon, not because I have a preference for them but because after being a Cylon almost every time I've played the BSG board game I've now accepted the inevitable truth that I am in fact a total frakking toaster.)

But maybe that's a good thing. I don't need another distraction!

Hey, everyone! Time for my New Year's memes. My answers this year are more upbeat than I can ever remember them being previously, which has to be a good thing!

I have seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1! I went with some people from work and there were about ten of us in the end, which was good. I feel like I should say something about the film here but I'm not sure what there is to say. I loved how close it was to the book.

And, while I'm here, there is one day left of November and I still have 9696 words to write for NaNo. I'm going to try and write a bit now but I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail this year. Oh well.

A Plan!

I'm going to see Deathly Hallows next Monday with some people from work. Yay!

Although two of them have seen it already. Lucky buggers. I'm seriously wondering if I should go to a midnight showing next year. After all, it'll be my last chance and I think it could be fun.

I'm not sure who would be crazy enough to go with me, though.
crystalcazzie: (Can't Brain - Dumb)
I need to post something but my brain isn't working properly.

I'm really looking forward to the new Harry Potter film.

What the hell has Emma Watson done to her hair?

Ok, I have tried many times over the past few days to actually write an entry about Edinburgh but I keep failing. I have been seriously lacking in energy and concentration recently. I've not been sleeping well and just seem to spend my days in a haze of tiredness where the simplest task requires far more effort than I can manage.

I really hope this sorts itself out before BiCon as I would like to actually be sociable and, you know, do things while I'm there.

But first, the Edinburgh Report:

I had a good time in Edinburgh, despite a few dips in mood where I became sullen and irrationally irritable. I'm sure I did not make for a good travelling companion but fortunately Paul did not drop me off the side of the castle at any point, tempting though I'm sure it must have been.

Speaking of the castle:

Isn't it Pretty? )

The castle could also be seen from the back room of The Elephant House, the cafe where JK Rowling wrote much of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone:

I Can See How This Would be Inspiring )

And, of course, one of the main things that Scotland is famous for:

Scotch! )

This is just part of one guy's massive collection of over 3400 bottles of Scotch. Unfortunately I feel The Scotch Whisky Experience would have frowned on us trying to drink them. But I did get my own taster tray of whiskies from the four main regions:

My Scotch! )

I didn't think to take a picture before I'd tried some, but you get the idea. I came to the conclusion that I am not a whisky connoisseur because all I really noticed about the four was that I liked the first three while the Islay was, as had been previously suggested, like drinking a bonfire. Not bad, but not something I'd choose.

All in all it was a very good trip. I think I'd like to go again at a time when the Fringe festival isn't starting and the streets are not completely jammed with people. I think autumn would be nice.

Speaking of autumn, I'm beginning to wonder if there's something wrong with me. As I mentioned in my previous entry I love the season and am really looking forward to it, but lately I've been feeling almost desperate for it to arrive. It's ridiculous that I'm wishing summer away but I can't seem to help it!
crystalcazzie: (Ravenclaw)
Hello! I have returned from not-so-rainy-after-all Edinburgh!

Actually I returned just over a week ago but I haven't turned my laptop on until now. Which means that I have two weeks of Flist to catch up on and 111 emails in my inbox to read. Mostly from the BiCon Newcomers mailing list, it seems.

Edinburgh was lovely. Beautiful castle. I found myself trying to work out ways that I could move there. (Edinburgh in general, I mean, not the castle specifically. Although that would be awesome.)

Since returning I have spent most of my free time playing Lego Harry Potter, which is an excellent game. It does now make me want to reread the books and rewatch the films though. And it makes me wish it was autumn. I love autumn. (Although it is currently pouring with rain here, and there was thunder earlier, which does feel quite autumnal. So that's very nice, even if a load of rain has come in through an open window and soaked the stairs to the room down below and one of its walls long with everything on it. Ho hum, my CDs are rather damp now!)

Anyway, I shall say my goodbyes for now and get on with all the things I've been putting off, such as checking my credit card statement and seeing just how much I spent in Edinburgh! On second thoughts, perhaps I should have a drink before facing that...
crystalcazzie: (Default)
It's OFFICIAL. SWINE FLU has come to my work. Kinda. TWO people apparently have it, although they caught it ELSEWHERE. But it still counts and we now have these ANTIBACTERIAL HAND GELS dotted around the place that we're supposed to use. They're quite FUN actually.

In OTHER NEWS, I have seen HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. It was a GOOD film, although they LEFT OUT a lot of bits that I thought would have been IMPORTANT.

I feel like I should say MORE but I feel TIRED and DOWN. I blame WORK.
crystalcazzie: (Gay for Moleman)
I know it's everywhere already, but I just have to add my love for Dumbledore being gay. Hee!

Also, I finished my PGCE application today and sent off the reference request. Hopefully my lecturer will have lots of good things to say about me. I put down Reading and Aberystwyth as my choices because while I do like the idea of staying close to people, which I why I want Reading, I also feel drawn to Aberystwyth. That's probably a really stupid reason to use to decide something so important, but I did love the place when I went to visit.

Of course it's entirely possible that they'll both reject me anyway so I'm not attaching too much hope to either one just yet.
