Hey! Sorry, it's been a while since I've been here but then with lockdown still going on not much has been happening. I had a week off work near the end of June during which the original plan had been to go to Denmark, but obviously that didn't happen, so I just sat at home and melted in the heatwave. I also made pizzas from scratch which turned out pretty well, although the bases rose a bit more than I'd have liked (a combination of making them too early and the weather being so hot, I think.)

I've been doing a few online escape rooms with friends over Zoom and that's been fun. A lot of the puzzles are the type that I love doing anyway and have a lot of experience with, so I'm usually able to solve quite a few of them. I like that. It makes me feel like I'm actually of some use to the team!

Also, the LJDQ is back as the DWDQ so I've been playing that every week and basking in the quotage. I got a full house not long ago, which I was very proud of! It's a lot of fun so I would highly recommend people come along and join in. (And if you're European you can become a member of the DWDQEU. All are welcome. Even the English!)

I've started a rewatch of Once Upon a Time and am very much enjoying season one so far. I'm a bit worried about what's going to happen once I get to the seasons where things started going off the rails, but maybe knowing where it all ends up will allow me to enjoy it more. And if not, there's always fanfiction to turn to when it gets bad.

Something I had been particularly looking forward to was the Hamilton film coming to Disney+. Originally it wasn't supposed to be released until October next year, but I suppose that since no one can see it in the theatres now anyway there was no point holding it back. Part of me was worried that it wouldn't live up to my high hopes, but I shouldn't have doubted. It was brilliant. I loved seeing the original cast in the roles after hearing them on the soundtrack so often. And it was great to see close up shots and catch all the little details that I hadn't been able to see when I saw it live cos I was too far away or focusing on something else at the time. Also all the things I did see but forgot about!

And finally, I think we have bees living in the roof of the side passage. Looking online seems to indicate that they're just using the space that's already there and not doing any damage, so I'm inclined to just leave them bee. (Sorry, I'm no good at puns...)

Previously, in my Livejournal, I gave you my Ships of the Noughties and Twentieth Century Ships lists. Well, a decade has passed since my Noughties list, a decade full of romantic, fun, heartwarming, and occasionally heartbreaking new ships for me to enjoy. So I have a new list to present for your reading pleasure.

As usual I found myself with far more potential couples than I could possibly include and so I may have gone slightly overboard with the honourable mentions list. I just couldn't bear to leave any of them out!

Once again I am not doubling up, so Mulder/Scully, Grissom/Sara, Tony/Ziva, Michael/Sara, Booth/Brennan, Barney/Robin, and Chuck/Sarah are not included because they're already on my Ships of the Noughties list. Although I was tempted to treat Prison Break's return like a new show and include Michael/Sara again, mainly cos when I wrote the first list Michael was supposed to be dead but it turns out he wasn't. (Shocking, I know...)

Anyway, here is my Ships of the 2010s list. Starting with the ones who didn't quite make the final cut:

Ok, I keep saying I'm going to make a TV post and never seem to get round to it and I think the problem is that I'm overthinking things. so I'm just going to make a post now and hope it make sense.

Some spoilers ahead, which I've put behind LJ cuts...

Things I Have Been Watching This Year:

Anne With An E:

I started watching this a few months ago but only got about halfway through. I may try to finish it at some point but the trouble is that Anne is so incredibly irritating I'd have sent her back myself at the earliest opportunity. Canada is very pretty though.

~

Stranger Things:

I heard such good things about this series for ages before I finally binge watched the first season earlier this year. It was so good and I was very excited to watch season two as soon as it was released. And it didn't disappoint, although it did break my heart.

~

Once Upon a Time:

I still maintain that this show has finished. What is currently being aired is a different show that happens to have the same name (a bit like season 9 of Scrubs). I tried watching one episode and it was terrible. Absolutely terrible. I might give it another go cos it feels a bit unfair to give up so soon, but it's not at the top of my list.

~

The Handmaid's Tale:

This is another one that I've started but not finished. Not because I don't like it but because it's pretty hard going. I read the book a few years ago so I know the story, but it's still a difficult watch.

~

The Good Place:

I am LOVING this show. The first season was only released in the UK at the end of August so I'm a bit late to the party but I'm so glad I gave it a chance when I was flicking through Netflix wondering what to watch. And, fortunately, we're not being made to wait for season two. We get the episodes the day after they're shown in America, which is brilliant but does mean I'm always left wanting more!

Spoilers Ahead! )

~

Star Trek Discovery:

I was wary going into this because I've been a lifelong Star Trek fan and the last time I got excited about a new series it was the exceedingly disappointing Enterprise. But so far Discovery has really impressed me. It didn't really feel like Star Trek to me, at least not until 'Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad', which had that good old Trek staple of time travel. I love time travel episodes. And when I say that it didn't feel like Star Trek, I'm not saying that I didn't like it. It's different, but that doesn't mean bad.

I love Tilly. And not just because she shares her name with my dog. She's a wonderful ray of sunshine and I hope only good things happen to her. I also love Stamets and Culber and their relationship.

I woke up during the night right around the time of the super blood moon so I tried to have a look at it. I had to awkwardly twist out my window and still all I could see was the moon looking a bit duller than usual and, if anything, smaller than it normally is. I didn't bother to try and get a photo of it but I am glad I saw it for myself.

I didn't do a very good job of falling back asleep afterwards so I'm feeling rather tired now. So I shall take this opportunity to ramble aimlessly about TV:

Doctor Who )

Once Upon a Time )

Castle )

I'm also slowly catching up with The Walking Dead after a few weeks away from it. I might need to pick up the pace a little but I'm hoping to be all caught up when the new series begins next month.
