Heatwave

It's Wednesday, which means I have made it over halfway through the week and haven't died! Yay me!

Work has been about as fun as anticipated, although I did manage to dig out an old fan and we've got that set up now. Not that it does much but it's better than nothing! And it seems my employers are actually considerate and don't want their employees to keel over from heat exhaustion and we got some money to buy drinks, which is nice. Also the Costa people came round with free samples of their caramel latte cooler, which was very much appreciated.

I've also closed my curtains so hopefully my room should be a bit more bearable to sleep in tonight. I can't believe it's taken me this long to work out that doing that might be a good idea! (The sun sets right opposite my window, which can make for lovely evenings, but also means that my room is basically cooking for hours and feels like an oven by the time I go to bed.)

I blame the heat for addling my brain. That and the fact that we're not really used to such high temperatures in this country. It almost makes me miss Vegas. The temperatures were higher there, but it was a dry heat and everywhere was air conditioned. What I wouldn't do for some air conditioning right about now!

The upside of all this is that I'm catching up on my TV shows. When I get in from work I'm too worn out and overheated to do much but flop onto the sofa and watch something. I've now finished Orphan Black season one and am making good progress with season five of Alias. I'm not too happy about certain developments though, which I will probably make a post about some time soon despite the fact that no one else is watching this ten year old show or would have any idea what I'm talking about.

Time for my annual New Year's memes. I'm feeling a bit tipsy at the moment because we didn't finish the champagne last night so I've taken it upon myself to make the sacrifice and drink the rest of it today. I hope my answers still make sense.

I've been back in the UK for a week now but I've been being my usual unsociable self and avoiding posting or commenting on LJ. So, how is everyone? Doing well I hope.

Las Vegas and San Francisco were excellent. Vegas was my favourite, I definitely want to go back there some time. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but I loved it. Especially the view of the Strip from the top of the Eiffel Tower at night.

While I was in America I did the whole collecting of state quarters thing. I ended up with 32 states and one territory. Not bad. I didn't get California though, which is annoying since I was there.

Since returning I've been watching a lot of CSI. It's fun to watch the establishing and background shots of Vegas and be able to say I've been to those places! It's also fun to see how old some of the shots are and how things have changed!

I'm not sure if I should admit that one thing I really liked to do while over there was think about TV shows! In Vegas I could imagine the kind of things Grissom and Sara might do together. In San Francisco I went to Chinatown and thought about the episode of Charmed with Piper and the ghost. And then in Alcatraz there was the episode with Phoebe and the ghost! Alcatraz also made me think a lot about Prison Break, for obvious reasons!

And now I'm back. And tired. And feeling kinda blah. It's London Pride today. I thought about going but didn't really feel up to it. Or anything really. Can I still blame jetlag for this? Or maybe the weather. Eh, I'll blame both.

Heu everyone! Greetings from sunny Vegas! I'm actually about to leave sunny Vegas but I wanted to make a post from here first. I tried to make one at the beginning of the week but it failed and my hotel didn't have wifi so I've been internetless for a while.

I'm flying to San Francisco soon. I might write another entry there. Hopefully on an actual computer cos writing on an iPod is very annoying!

Apparently I'm married to my brother. This could be awkward.

Back when we booked our holiday I noticed that the guy had me down as Mrs. I pointed out the mistake and he said he'd change it. It's correct on the booking printout, but yesterday I was entering our Advance Passenger Information online and saw that I'm still listed as Mrs on the plane ticket.

Being the kind of person who worries excessively about everything, I was immediately worried about various issues that this might cause, but I checked my passport and it doesn't list a title at all, so I don't think it should be a problem. For all they know I could be Mrs. I was still very pissed off about it though because a) It was a fucking stupid make in the first place. Why would you make an assumption like that? Why wouldn't you fucking ask. And b) He said he would correct it but obviously didn't. Or at least made a half-arsed effort by changing one thing and leaving everything else.

But after a day of making jokes about it at work I'm feeling a lot better about it. People who see me and my brother often comment on how alike we look, so it could be amusing to have people think we're married then actually take a look at us.

I'm still feeling anxious about the trip though. That's been my main feeling for a while now. It's a shame, I'd rather be happy and excited about it. Hopefully that will come when I'm actually on my way.

Viva!

Hey, everyone! Remember me? I'd been taking a little LJ-hiatus in order to become an unsociable recluse, but it's a new month and I'm trying to get back into the social habit.

I've been quite productive during my absence. Last week I went to London and booked my holiday to Las Vegas and San Francisco in June. (Hopefully once the date arrives I will have learnt how to spell 'Francisco' without having to stop and think about it like I do now.) Weirdly, it still doesn't feel like it's really happening. It still feels like something we're planning to do one day if we ever get around to it. I think I felt the same way about Australia, but I had a lot longer to wait between booking and going with that one.

Also, in the past few days I have done various things that normal adults can do without issue but which make me sick with anxiety. Not that I wasn't still sick with anxiety, but the important thing is that I did them. Maybe, in time, I too will be a proper grown-up.

Maybe.

Hey, everyone! Time for my New Year's memes. My answers this year are more upbeat than I can ever remember them being previously, which has to be a good thing!

There is a CSI: The Experience in Birmingham! Of course I would discover this less than a week before it ends meaning I have no time to go. Oh well, just more reason to get round to organising that trip to Las Vegas. I just hope I don't end up missing the one there too. (I'm still sad that Star Trek: The Experience has closed, that would have been cool.)

And just in case anyone was wondering, I'm not reading my Friends List at the moment cos I haven't seen the finale of Bones and I don't want to be spoiled for any of it. (I am aware that I really should get round to watching it soon cos the longer I wait the higher the chances are that I'll come across a spoiler somewhere accidentally. It's happened before that I've been spoiled for something while reading something else that had nothing to do with it. But if I wait one more day I can watch it properly on TV so I'm going to take my chances and just avoid most of the internet until then. I'll play LOTRO instead!)
