Paul came to visit yesterday.  He approves of the new house, which is good.  He then drove us into Hastings so I could play tour guide and show him around.

We started at The Shipwreck Museum, which was very interesting and clearly a labour of love.  There was an outside section where some pigeons had made themselves at home:

The weekend before last I went up to London for our annual Festive Fun Weekend which involved Santa, Nutcrackers, Hever Castle, and nowhere near as much mulled wine as I thought it would...

It's October, which means it's the start of Spooky Season.  To celebrate I have changed my LJ theme as well as my bedding.  Yes, I have put the Halloween duvet cover on already.  All of October is Halloween so all of October should have Halloween bedding.  Of course this does present a problem for when I have to change my sheets during the month since I only have one set.  One option would be to wash, dry and replace the same set on the same day.  Another option would be to buy a new set of Halloween bedding so I can alternate between the two.  Guess which I went for!

In other news, I went to the Farnham Food Festival on Sunday.  I was wandering around looking at the stalls when I ran into Emma and Sarah Jane, so I spent the rest of the time with them which was really nice.  I bought some really interesting sounding pies, fruit wines, shortbread (original, chocolate, and coffee), cheese, brownies, and fudge.  I also had some Turkish flatbread and a glass of rose prosecco while there:

Last Friday I went up to see Paul for our Festive Weekend. We avoided central London this year, which was probably sensible but I did miss the Muppets. I'll just have to make up for it by watching and singalong-ing a lot at home!

It's my birthday and it is unseasonably warm! Fortunately I didn't have anywhere to be other than taking Tormund for a walk this morning, which was early enough that the heat wasn't too bad.

Which meant that the bulk of the day was devoted to staying in and celebrating the four decades of my existence! After breakfast Mum presented me with this pile of beautifully wrapped objects:

Which I opened to reveal...

Birthday Haul!

(I bet you can't guess how old I am, lol!)

I do have to make special mention of the card. Red Red Wine by UB40 was the number one single when I was born so it's doubly perfect for me!

I took a separate picture of it with the Cellar Rats wine that Paul got me. I look forward to trying them some time soon!

Mum and I spent a while playing The 40th Birthday Game, which was actually a lot of fun. Mum said she got it as a bit of a joke but it turned out to be a really good game! We then played Ticket to Ride London. I won one, she won one, then I won the tie break.

After that I decided to give myself flowers by making some out of Lego while watching the live action The Little Mermaid. That was also very good.

My flowers!

I assumed these would be the only flowers I would get today, but then the doorbell rang and...

My brother sent me flowers!

So pretty!

For tea I had a pretty rainbow cake, as befits my age:

And this evening it was time for champagne:

Yay!

This is the face of a 40-year-old.

And, finally, it's time for my Epic Poem of Birthday Brilliance:

Somehow I have managed to survive
Four full decades of being alive
Let's raise our glasses to another four
And if I'm lucky, maybe some more!
