A few months ago I apparently lost my mind and agreed to run a 7k in May. Two days ago I ran that 7k.

Well, I say "ran", actually I alternated between running and walking because there was no way I was going to be able to keep up a running pace the whole way, unlike Paul who zoomed off ahead of me after about five minutes. But the important thing is that I did it and I did not die.

My time was 59:47 and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself that I made it in under an hour, even if I was one of the last ones to finish. And there was beer at the end, which was the main reason I agreed to this madness in the first place...

Me with beer. And appropriate t-shirt that I got in Halifax.

Following this we got the bus to Brighton, played a few games in the amusement arcade on the pier, and had dinner. I felt pretty tired but otherwise ok and it wasn't until the evening the next day that the aches and pains from the run made themselves known. I'm still a little stiff today, so I'm very glad that I took this week off work.

We also made progress on our planning for our next holiday and not only have an itinerary for Wales but have already booked all our hotels. It's almost unheard of for us to move this quickly! Usually I spend ages researching and planning! I'm not sure if this bodes well or not...

Paul and I went to sunny Brighton on Saturday. The weather was definitely on our side and the sea looked absolutely beautiful...

As for our reasons for going to Brighton - I've been wanting to go up the i360 Tower for a while now and was considering taking a trip down for my birthday, so when I saw that Sussex Gin Fest was on the weekend before it seemed like the perfect time to go. Celebrating my Birthday Week by drinking copious amounts of gin on the sea front sounded good to me! =D

We started off with a free Bramble cocktail, which was very nice.

Week Off

I've just had a week off work during which I did very little other than build Lego, put together jigsaws, and re-watch Brooklyn Nine Nine. It was glorious. But now work is upon me again and, if today was any indication, I'm going to be absolutely worn out by the time Christmas comes around.

Speaking of Christmas, I've decided to embrace the festive spirit rather than moan about how early it is. I don't care that it's only November, I've already had five different festive drinks from various coffee shops, two fruit pies (cos I don't like mince pies) and have started my Christmas shopping. I'm hoping to get it all done by December so I can properly relax and enjoy Christmassy things like baking gingerbread and watching every Christmas episode of every TV show ever made.

Of course I didn't just stay at home during my week off. I went up to London last weekend to watch fireworks and then my pub quiz team and I went to Brighton to do an escape room, which we absolutely smashed with 19 minutes to spare. We didn't do quite so well on Wednesday when we came second in the quiz, just one point behind the winners, but I suppose we can't win them all. Dammit.

I went up to London at the weekend for mine and Paul's annual Christmas shopping trip. I think I might be getting a bit old for it though. Maybe next year I should do all my shopping online and we can just spend three days drinking mulled wine and eating gingerbread. Although if we do that then we do miss out on finding cool little shops and craft markets, which would be a shame.

On Saturday we went down to Brighton to have a look at what was there. The seafront was very bracing (read: windy) but I still loved it. And we found a lovely little craft market in a seafront tavern where I picked up a few things including some cute little Star Wars decorations which are now adorning my tree.

I didn't end up buying as much as I have in previous years, which is good. Still felt quite loaded down by the end of the weekend though!

In other news, my ear is bothering me again. I managed to go quite a long time without any issues, but it's now swollen and painful. I'm just taking ibuprofen and hoping it sorts itself out soon. Really hoping before Christmas and preferably before Friday evening when I have my work Christmas meal. I'm bad enough at socialising as it is without adding not being able to hear well into the mix!
