Week Off

I've just had a week off work during which I did very little other than build Lego, put together jigsaws, and re-watch Brooklyn Nine Nine. It was glorious. But now work is upon me again and, if today was any indication, I'm going to be absolutely worn out by the time Christmas comes around.

Speaking of Christmas, I've decided to embrace the festive spirit rather than moan about how early it is. I don't care that it's only November, I've already had five different festive drinks from various coffee shops, two fruit pies (cos I don't like mince pies) and have started my Christmas shopping. I'm hoping to get it all done by December so I can properly relax and enjoy Christmassy things like baking gingerbread and watching every Christmas episode of every TV show ever made.

Of course I didn't just stay at home during my week off. I went up to London last weekend to watch fireworks and then my pub quiz team and I went to Brighton to do an escape room, which we absolutely smashed with 19 minutes to spare. We didn't do quite so well on Wednesday when we came second in the quiz, just one point behind the winners, but I suppose we can't win them all. Dammit.

Happy Guy Fawkes Night, everyone. I'm going to celebrate by making dinner and watching University Challenge. Party hard.

Day 6

As we were getting fish and chips last night I popped into the new little shop that's recently opened next door to it. They don't sell rolls. But they do sell porn. Good to see they've got their priorities in order.

Happy Bonfire Night everyone. In a couple of hours Rob, Esme and I are going to walk down to the rugby club and celebrate the failure of a Catholic plot to blow up the king and parliament by watching pretty explosions and a man being burnt in effigy.

Then we're going to get fish & chips.

What a wonderful country this is.

Day 4

I can hear fireworks but I can't see them. That's always annoying.

This, on the other hand, is awesome:

My parents and I have just been on the patio watching the local rugby club fireworks display while drinking mulled wine. Very impressive fireworks, not so great wine.

Tilly came out and joined us for a while. I'm sure anyone seeing us would have thought we were horrible people to have her out there, but that's the advantage of having a deaf dog. =D

I suppose a more detailed account of the awesomeness of Saturday night is in order. People came round, we had fireworks, we had a bonfire, we burnt various things, we played Cranium, we drank, we laughed, we created diet coke mentos geysers and basically had a thoroughly good time.

I would write an even more detailed account but I'm not feeling very well at the moment. This is also why I haven't written much for NaNo in the past day or so, which means I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to reaching the word count by the end of the month.

My throat is killing me. I really don't think all the smoke from last night was helpful either.

Totally worth it though.

The fireworks, bonfire and drinking night is going awesomely. We are currently in the middle of a game of Cranium and the only reason I have come over to post this is so I don't lose at NaBloPoMo.

Last night was excellent. Lots of pretty explosions. We burnt Parliament and the conspirators. Strategic firework placement meant that it looked like the building was actually exploding for a while, which was very cool.

The only downside was that every time there was a particularly loud firework I would worry about the rats, so I didn't enjoy it all as much as I would have liked. They seemed ok when I went to check on them though, which is good.

The rest of the evening was great as well. I hope everyone else had a fun time, too.

Today I have written a few more words for NaNo. Not nearly enough though. And I miss the Progress Report where you could compare actual and expected word count. I can't find it this year. Do they not have it any more?

Also, I really wish this LJ email notification problem would be fixed. I'm far too simple-minded to remember everywhere I've commented and go back to check them all for replies.

I have started my NaNo story. Finally. And, as if that's not enough, I'm considering doing NaBloPoMo too. Which is basically posting an entry every day for the month of November. Shouldn't be too difficult, although I'm sure I'll run out of things to say and start posting any old crap pretty soon.

I suppose I've already failed due to my lack of a proper 1/11 entry but whatever. I can start now and see what happens. It's not like I'm doing it properly.

Fireworks and bonfire tonight. I'm so excited about this. In the interests of fairness and equality and burninating as much stuff as possible, we're going to make a Parliament to burn. Perhaps a Guy too, so both sides are represented. Hee!

Yay for fire and explosions! (Safely controlled, of course.)
