An Arundel Garden
May. 15th, 2025 06:57 pmLast week Emma and I went to Arundel, a place I mostly knew about from having to study the poem An Arundel Tomb for GCSE English Literature, and enjoyed a lovely visit to the Castle and Gardens.
I of course took a whole load of photos so I'm going to split this into two posts. This one will focus on the Gardens part of the Castle and Gardens.
We started with a stroll down to the pond
There were lots of poppies. Most looked very bedraggled so it became a bit of a personal challenge for us to find a pretty one to photograph!
Pretty purple flower!
I took this picture because I was rather amused by the fact that they just seem to be watering the bench.
Stumpery!
So pretty.
Unexpected palm trees!
Also, this is the chapel where the Arundel Tomb actually is. I didn't take any photos inside though.
Pretty purple flower #2!
A mysterious door in a wall! Shall we enter?
Yes, yes we shall.
Arty photo attempt alert!
They really love their tulips here.
I just really like the framing of this picture.
Full view of the cathedral of Our Lady and Sir Philip Howard.
More pretty purple flowers.
Funky colours.
Totally normal fountain.
More tulips!
Another view of the cathedral. I believe that is the Vatican flag and I assume it is at half mast due to the recent death of the pope. It took a while for the wind to co-operate enough for me to get a decent picture of it!
I may be ever so slightly obsessed with these flowers...
We stopped for a quick drink with these fine people.
We approach closer to the castle...
Stumpery selfie!
And thus concludes the Garden portion of the tour. Next up, the Castle itself!
