So how are we all enjoying 2026 so far?  One week in and I think this is a good time to review my resolutions from last year and see about making new ones.  (And before any smart arses come at me, no I do not have over two thousand resolutions! 😂)

2025 Resolutions:

1. Post more 2019 photos. First one out of the gate is a failure.  I know this is getting rather ridiculous by this point and I should probably just forget about it but I'm not going to. I will get this done!

2. Finish at least one book. Success! I finished a few and currently only have one on the go.  Well, unless you count the Song of Ice and Fire series but I think I really have given up on that.

3. Post a fic that's not part of a fandom event. Not so successful here.  But I really hope to do it this year. (I know, I know, I keep saying that...)

4. Score 1/6 on Wordle. Alas, no.  Annoyingly I was listening to White Christmas when playing recently and I nearly went for White as my starter word but I was convinced it had already been used.  It hadn't and was the answer that day.  Aagh!

5. Move house. MAJOR SUCCESS!  As I write this while sitting in the living room of my new house I think I can officially tick this one off!

6. Participate in the World Jigsaw Championships. Another success! I went, I puzzled, I did not qualify for any semi-finals but I had a lot of fun.

7. Find a new hairdresser (mine went out of business months ago and I've been lazy about finding a new one.) I did find a new hairdresser.  But then I moved house and now I need to find another one!

8. Keep the table clear. (It's so nice to have space. Let's try and keep it that way!) Well, we left that table behind so I'm not sure what the current state of it is!  But I'm already cluttering up the surfaces in my new house, which is exactly what I don't want to be doing.

Overall I'd say I did pretty well.  Didn't achieve everything, but did enough.  Especially considering moving house was the really big one!

And now, let's see what I want this next year to bring me:

1. Post more 2019 photos.  I'm giving myself the deadline of 2029 to get this finished, so I really need to make some progress this year!

2. Post a fic that's not part of a fandom event.

3. Score 1/6 on Wordle.

4. Make this house feel more like my home and less like a place for storing moving boxes!

5. Qualify for the semi-finals in a jigsaw competition (Nationals or Worlds.)

6.  Find a new hairdresser.

7. Find a new dentist.

I think my wife managed a 1/6 on Wordle last year. You'll get there. Otherwise sounds like a successful year. I'm not sure how mine was iin terms of resolutions but I wanted to go to Japan my whole life and I did that so 2025 was a great year for me either way. Good luck getting your new home sorted.

Well done to her! Hopefully I can do the same this year!

Ooh, Japan sounds fun. Were you there for long?

And thanks! I'm a terrible procrastinator so who knows how long it will take, but I do hope to have this place feeling like a proper home sooner rather than later!

Just two and a bit weeks. You probably remember my friend Pooka who'd visit sometimes when we were in Canterbury. We'd both always wanted to go to Japan and always fantasised about going together but never managed to save enough or make any serious plans. Because he's a teaching assistant we're very limited for when we could go. Basically it had to be August and it was always just a bit too expensive. He got diagnosed with muscular dystrophy a few years ago so that kicked us into gear a bit so as soon as I had some money I booked flights for both of us. We loved it. Trip of a lifetime. It was difficult for him at times getting around and he was exhausted through a lot of it but we're really glad we got to do it while he could still walk. Too hot though. I hope I get to go again and I'll go when it's a bit cooler. We did Tokyo and Kyoto and I bought a second suitcase to bring back all the Nintendo games and souvenirs I'd picked up.

I know what that's like living around boxes. I'm a great procrastinator as well. Once you get to it though it's a lovely feeling getting to design your space and make it into a proper home.

Awesome! I'm glad you had such a good time! And I hope Pooka is doing ok. I see from his own LJ that he really enjoyed Japan too!

I have made slight progress with the boxes. Mostly just moving a load up to the loft to sort out later, but hey, it gets them out of the main rooms!
