I often like to play spooky/autumnal games around Halloween and last year I started The Excavation of Hob's Barrow.  But I drifted away from it and never completed the game.  So this year I decided to pick it up again.  Rather than load my last save and almost certainly have no idea what I was supposed to be doing, I decided to start it again from the beginning.  I did remember a few things and managed to reach the point where I left off rather quickly.  Once I was in new territory I worried that I'd slow down considerably, but actually I was able to continue my pace and reached the end in good time.

The ending was... unexpected.  I'd have to say that I much preferred the first half of the game.  It was so atmospheric and I loved the mysterious Victorian Yorkshire village vibe.  I'm a big fan of gently spooky things and less so of outright horror.  The latter part was definitely more horror-focused.  And while the game did make it clear the whole way through that things were going to go badly for Thomasina, I was still blindsided by just how badly they went!

I finished it well before Halloween and so decided to start another seasonal game.  I opted for An English Haunting but have not played as much of it as I'd have liked.  At this rate I'll end up doing the same thing again and finishing it next year!

Speaking of atmospheric games, I've heard a lot of good things about Dredge and hope to give that a go soon as well.
