Because I am too old to stay up until the early hours of the morning for the Oscars, I watched them as soon as I could today.  I managed to avoid seeing/hearing/reading any spoilers so I had no idea who won any of the awards when I settled down on the sofa with Tormund to see what happened last night...

Felicity Jones on the red carpet.  She's not likely to win, just there to have fun.

I like the big red dress.  And the black one.  Are these famous people?  Probably not.

Cynthia looking spiky.

You're not supposed to say that out loud, Jason!  Pretend it's all on merit!

No original song performances?  Oh.  So no Brandi.

Ariana has come dressed as a lampshade.

Whoever booked Jason has their head in their hands right now.

Cynthia and her terrifying nails.

Ooh, I love the tux dress.  Who is she?

Timothee Chalomet looking like a pale banana.

Ralph Fiennes heard Jason Isaacs was there and ran away!

Ceremony time!

Are those tattoos real?  They look awful.  And does her dress have a shoe on the strap?

I spy Brandi Carlile!

It's not spring yet, Conan.

Did one of the backing dancers have dirty knees?

Hey Dancing Deadpool!

RDJ to present the first award.

Best Supporting Actor.  We're all going for Kieran Culkin, including the RNG.  And we're all right.

That's Ron Swanson's voice!

This feels awkward.

Animated Film.  We have four different predictions here.  Would be funny if we were all wrong!  But no, Emma gets the point.

Did he just repeat himself?

Animated Short — One person in the audience loves Wander to Wonder.  But the Academy doesn't.  Points to Emma and Paul.

Jason has abandoned us.

Costume.  Why do we need five presenters for costume?  Winner is Wicked and points to Emma and me.

Original Screenplay — Anora.  Point to me.  Emma's first misstep tonight.

Adapted Screenplay — Conclave.  Points to the human players.

Ukraine ribbon spotted.

Mystery tribute coming up... What could it be?

Weird transition there.

Makeup & Hairstyling — The Substance.  Points to Emma and Paul.

That was short and sweet.

Is this the mystery tribute?  James Bond?  Are they going to reveal the next one?

Who is Lisa?  Is she famous?  Was she the one in the tux dress?

Doja Cat next, so I'd say yes these are famous people.

Raye making a weird racket.  The audience looks pained.

Mariella Frostrup not happy about The Substance winning makeup.

Jonathan not impressed by the Bond dance.  I don't think anyone was.

Ukraine mention.

Editing — Anora.  No points for anyone!  First time for that this year.  Aww, the guy thanked his dog!  I'm happy he won.

Supporting Actress — Zoe Saldana.  Points to Emma, the RNG, and me.

I thought Zoe's dress was ok when I just saw the top.  Now I've seen the whole thing I do not think that.

Big 'Wrap!' sign flashing up on her screen.

Production Design.  I do like this skit.  Winner is Wicked, points to me and Emma.

I just want to take a moment here to point out the current points:

RNG 2, Paul 4, Caroline 6, Emma 8.

I like that.

Mick Jagger here to the delight of the audience!  To present Best Original Song.

I went with heart over head for this award cos I really want Brandi Carlile to win an Oscar, but I don't think she will.

El Mal won.  Yawn.  Points to Emma and the RNG.

Oh my god, get these people off the stage.

Documentary Short — The Only Girl in the Orchestra.  Emma's on fire tonight!  Also point to the RNG.

Documentary Feature — No Other Land.  Oops, sorry Emma I jinxed you!  That's a point to me.

Ooh, politics!  Criticism of America.  Love it.

Lots of love for No Other Land in the studio.

Ralph Fiennes looks like he'd rather be anywhere else.

Oh fuck, that's Miley Cyrus?  I was trying to work out which 70s star she was.

Sound.  I think Dune won but Tormund's barking so I'm going to wait for it to come up on the screen.  Yes.  Point to Emma.

Oh dear, the other guy didn't get to say anything.  Completely muted, not just music playing over him.

Is Rachel Zegler tiny or is Gal Gadot giant?

Visual Effects.  We all think Dune, except the RNG which has gone for monkey Robbie Williams.  But the humans are right.

8 Oscars to go!

Live Action Short — I'm Not a Robot.  Points to Paul and the RNG.

Morgan Freeman talking about Gene Hackman.

Time for In Memoriam.

Maggie Smith first.

Oh, the costume designer for The Princess Bride.

I forgot James Earl Jones was recent.

I feel like Mariella learnt the word 'anodyne' yesterday and now has to use it as much as possible.

It's a multi-presenter job for Cinematography.  Why?  Winner — The Brutalist.  Points to me and Emma.

International Film — I'm Still Here.  More points to Em and me.

Emma has won.  She actually won a while ago considering how many of our recent predictions were the same but I didn't notice.  She's currently on 14 and I'm on 10 with five awards to go and we match on three of them.

Conan looks exhausted.  Ooh, politics!

I don't get the Jaws joke, Mark.

Original Score — The Brutalist.  Emma and I both said that so I'm not catching up to her but I am making my final score a bit more respectable.

Whoopi's dress has pockets!

Oh, this is very energetic for so late in the show.  Trying to wake everyone up are you?

Ariana has changed her dress.

Time for the Big Four!

Best Actor first.  Adrien Brody nets points for the humans.

This speech is a lot longer than 45 seconds.

Someone please shut him up.

I really wish they hadn't turned the music off.  You don't get to tell them what to do, Brody.

Best Director — Sean Baker.  Point to me!  I'm closing the gap slightly.

That was a much better speech.

Emma Stone here to present Best Actress.  All three of us have gone for Demi Moore.  The RNG has gone Fernanda Torres.  But Mikey Madison gets it!

Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal to give out Best Picture.  Emma and Paul have gone for The Brutalist.  I've gone for Anora.  (The RNG has Nickel Boys but that's not going to win!)

Anora!  Yay!

So final scores are:

  • Emma: 16

  • Caroline: 14

  • Paul: 7

  • RNG: 5

Pretty good showing.  And I feel I can be proud of the fact that I got 3/4 of the Big Four awards correct, including Best Picture!
