Oscars Dress Report 2024

I had planned to post my Oscars Dress Report soon after my main Oscars post, but I must have caught some kind of lurgy in London cos I've been feeling terrible for the past week. But on the bright side I did manage to watch the whole Back to the Future trilogy. So every cloud and all that.

I'm feeling better now, although with an annoying cough that doesn't seem to want to shift, but still under the weather enough that I'm not going to spend ages overthinking my choices. So here we go...


Ones I Liked

America Ferrera



I love the cut and the way it fits. It just suits her so well.

Sometimes dresses like this feel like two different pieces that don't go together, but this one works. I particularly like the scallop shell skirt.

This is just fabulous. Amazing skirt. I love it.

Kinda boring, I know, but I think she pulls it off and pushes it into the classically timeless category.

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of the shawl detail (which I think is part of the dress rather than a real shawl) but I love the shape and the design otherwise.

At first I didn't like this, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me and I think she can join Jamie Lee Curtis in the classically timeless and elegant club.

Ones I'm Not Sure About

Ava DuVernay



You look like a satchel.

The preppy schoolgirl look isn't bad, per se, but it doesn't feel right for the Oscars.

It does give a lovely shape up top and she looks very elegant, but I just can't stand mermaid dresses.

It looks kinda ridiculous and like it's made of plastic. But it also makes her look kinda like a dragon, so I don't completely hate it.

I'm slightly tempted to move this to the Liked section, but there's just something about it that feels off.

I mean... it's fine. Nothing special. Bit dull. And she doesn't look comfortable in it.

I don't know who this person is but as soon as I saw her on the red carpet I knew she had to go on the list. It looks awful and I think is actually giant clown trousers rather than a dress.

I originally had this in Not Sure, but the more I look at it the more I hate both the random fluffy bits and the plasticky material.
