Oscars Dress Report 2024
Mar. 21st, 2024 07:13 pmI had planned to post my Oscars Dress Report soon after my main Oscars post, but I must have caught some kind of lurgy in London cos I've been feeling terrible for the past week. But on the bright side I did manage to watch the whole Back to the Future trilogy. So every cloud and all that.
I'm feeling better now, although with an annoying cough that doesn't seem to want to shift, but still under the weather enough that I'm not going to spend ages overthinking my choices. So here we go...
Ones I Liked
America Ferrera

I love the cut and the way it fits. It just suits her so well.
~*~
Anya Taylor-Joy

Sometimes dresses like this feel like two different pieces that don't go together, but this one works. I particularly like the scallop shell skirt.
~*~
Eugene Lee Yang

This is just fabulous. Amazing skirt. I love it.
~*~
Jamie Lee Curtis

Kinda boring, I know, but I think she pulls it off and pushes it into the classically timeless category.
~*~
Jennifer Lawrence

I must admit I'm not a huge fan of the shawl detail (which I think is part of the dress rather than a real shawl) but I love the shape and the design otherwise.
~*~
Jodie Foster

At first I didn't like this, but the more I look at it the more it grows on me and I think she can join Jamie Lee Curtis in the classically timeless and elegant club.
~*~
Nazrin Choudhury

It's so pretty and I love all the detail.
~*~
Zendaya

Sleek and elegant and with enough of a pattern to stop it being boring.
~*~
Ones I'm Not Sure About
Ava DuVernay

You look like a satchel.
~*~
Billie Eilish

The preppy schoolgirl look isn't bad, per se, but it doesn't feel right for the Oscars.
~*~
Carey Mulligan

It does give a lovely shape up top and she looks very elegant, but I just can't stand mermaid dresses.
~*~
Cynthia Erivo

It looks kinda ridiculous and like it's made of plastic. But it also makes her look kinda like a dragon, so I don't completely hate it.
~*~
Danielle Brooks

I'm slightly tempted to move this to the Liked section, but there's just something about it that feels off.
~*~
Greta Gerwig

I mean... it's fine. Nothing special. Bit dull. And she doesn't look comfortable in it.
~*~
Hailee Steinfeld

It could be good with a better top half. As it is, this looks a bit silly.
~*~
Lily Gladstone

It's pretty, but I'm not sure about the train.
~*~
Margot Robbie

It's not terrible, but it does remind me very much of a bin bag.
~*~
Michelle Yeoh

Not a big fan of the dress. Definitely not a fan of the gloves!
~*~
Sandra Huller

She looks like she's about to take flight.
~*~
Ones I Didn't Like
Ariana Grande

Absolutely ridiculous dress explosion. Who thought this was a good idea?
~*~
Charlize Theron

It looks like it got all twisted up wrong when she got dressed in a hurry.
~*~
Da'Vine Joy Rudolph

I do not like the pom pom arms.
~*~
Emily Blunt

This is just awful. The floating shoulders are bad enough, but who came up with the Y-fronts design on the front?
~*~
Emma Stone

Not a fan of the peplum or the colour or the way the bottom looks so awkward around her legs.
~*~
Erika Alexander

Making dresses out of Muppets is wrong and must be stopped.
~*~
Florence Pugh

I suppose it's not completely terrible, but I just don't think the top matches the bottom. And the floating shoulders strike again!
~*~
Julianne Hough

I don't know who this person is but as soon as I saw her on the red carpet I knew she had to go on the list. It looks awful and I think is actually giant clown trousers rather than a dress.
~*~
Lupita Nyong'o

I originally had this in Not Sure, but the more I look at it the more I hate both the random fluffy bits and the plasticky material.
~*~
Rita Moreno

I think she's being eaten by a snake.
~*~
And finally...
Not a Dress
Jon Batiste

I don't know who this guy is, but he's wearing purple to the Oscars and I love that.
