Welcome to my Not-Quite-Liveblog of the Oscars 2024. Emma had to pull out of our predictions game cos she was off galivanting about in Florida, but Paul and I are still playing for honour and a cocktail...

So we're on ITV this year after two decades of being on Sky. I'm glad this seems to mean the return of a panel, which I've missed recently.

The panel looks rather bored.

Ncuti! On the red carpet! Hi!

I see we're back to having a red carpet this year after the champagne one didn't quite work.

Huh, unexpected delay.

And we're off!

Supporting Actress. Five previous winners brought back to present? This is going to take forever.

I think Mary Steenburgen is wearing the same dress as when she won.

Is that Zuck behind Jodie Foster? No, it's Joseph Quinn.

Da'Vine seem like the lock here. And she wins - points to me and Paul.

God has nothing to do with it. And I'm not a fan of the pom pom arms.

Ads in America so we get the panel.

Back for animation awards.
Short - War Is Over. I pull ahead. (Picking an anti-war film seemed like a safe bet!)
Feature - The Boy and the Heron. Paul has caught up. And the RNG scores its first point.

The Best Picture nominees being introduced throughout the show feels like a Game of Fonts. The Holdovers was so 70s. Poor Things is so Addams Family.

WTF is "Chippen, Dale"? I thought it was "Chip 'n' Dale".

Original screenplay. The words are appearing on the screen as the nominations are being read out and I'm pretty sure one had "reigning it in", which is wrong.

The winner is Anatomy of a Fall, so points to me.

Adapted Screenplay. I'm hoping they give this to Barbie cos we all know Oppenheimer's going to get Best Picture.

But it goes to American Fiction and no one gets any points.

Bit weird that he's going on about directors and directing when this is a screenplay award.

What Was I Made For performance. I've gone for this for Best Song but it's a bit dull.

Ads again. Wait, what's happened to the panel? That's twice we've gone to real adverts and no sign of Ross and co.

Ah, here they are. I was worried something had gone wrong.

Is Michael Keaton drunk?

Makeup and Hair - Poor Things. Point to Paul.
Production Design - Poor Things. Paul has taken the lead.

Streaker joke. I'm not sure who the naked guy is but I think he's famous.

Costume Design - Poor Things. My refusal to pick that films cos it looks absolutely awful is coming back to bite me in the arse.

Back to the panel. Naked Guy/Toga Guy was John Cena.

Come on, Fay. Admit you hate Poor Things!

International Feature - The Zone of Interest. I'm back on track, but Paul also predicted it so it doesn't change much in our rankings.

Politics!

Barbenheimer jokes with Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling.

Are we introducing a stunt category for the Oscars now?

Supporting Actor. We're going to have five guys giving speeches now, aren't we?

I love Ke Huy Quan.

RDJ wins and I start closing the gap.

Back to the panel and they have a little Godzilla model cos Godzilla Minus One used lots of them in the making of the film. I'm so glad I predicted them to win Visual Effects!

It's Twins! Arnie and Danny presenting. And lamenting their failures to kill Batman.

Visual Effects goes to Godzilla Minus One. Yay! Points all round! (This is one of only two categories where Paul, the RNG, and I all agree.)

Love all their Godzilla models!

Oh dear, get-off music playing over tribute to a dead guy. Always a faux pas.

Film Editing. Arnie is struggling with the names here. Oppenheimer wins and I close the gap.

Bit of Barbie Girl there. Nice.

Tequila for everyone! Fun times!

Barbie Girls Kate and America are here to present docs.

Documentary Short - The Last Repair Shop. Points for people.

Documentary Feature. One person in the audience really loves To Kill a Tiger, but this has to go to Mariupol doesn't it? Yes, it does. Points for people again.

Zendaya looking very pretty, here to present Cinematography. This is the other category where all three of us have gone for the same prediction. So it's an all or nothing round and...

It's an all! Oppenheimer wins and we all score points.

Live Short - The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar. Didn't seem that popular in the auditorium but Paul and I get points.

I think Ben on the panel is over the jokes about cutting him off.

I may understand this bit better if I'd seen Field of Dreams.

Sound goes to Zone of Interest. Paul pulls ahead.

I'm Just Ken performance. It was a lot of fun, but I feel like a lot of people are going to miss the point of it entirely!

Ariana Grande, you look ridiculous.

Cynthia Erivo, not much better.

Original Score. Paul and I have gone for the same, so this won't affect things much. Opp wins and we get points.

Original Song - What Was I Made For. I pull level.

Back to the panel. And back for the big awards.

Is this Navalny? Must be time for the Memoriam section.

Andre!

Glynis Johns should have had a bigger bit.

Are we going to include Matthew Perry? He was in films too. Yes, there he is.

Huh, I thought that Richard Lewis was already dead. But I now realise I was thinking of Roger Rees cos they were both in Men in Tights.

And back to the panel already. So not time for the big awards just yet.

Who's the potential British winner for Best Actor, Jonathan? I don't think there is one.

Time for the Best Actor award. More talking. And it goes to Cillian Murphy to no one's surprise. Paul and I get points.

Spielberg is here to hand out Best Director. It goes to Christopher Nolan and I take the lead.

After a very close-run race where we switched the lead a few times I now can't lose. I can only win or tie.

The panel are pointing out how Brits have won so much this evening. I noticed that too. So many Happy Mother's Day messages in the acceptance speeches to confuse the Americans!

Jonathan just said "I've made the mistake of calling [Cillian Murphy] British in the past." Yes, if by past you mean three minutes ago!

Best Actress. This is a tight race and I'm pretty sure the winner will have Stone somewhere in their name. I'm hoping for Lily but it goes to Emma, which means none of us get points.

But this does mean that I've won cos I'm currently one point ahead and both Paul and I have put Oppenheimer for Best Picture.

Oh dear, Al Pacino needs to go back to bed.

Best Picture - Oppenheimer. No surprises there.

That guy has a phone! Is that allowed? And if you were trying to be subtle about it, a hot pink case isn't the way to go!

Another Mother's Day message to round out the evening.

So that was fun. And Paul's best showing for years!

Final results:

Caroline: 16/23
Paul: 15/23
RNG: 3/23

I look forward to an Oppenheimer cocktail with equal parts dread and excitement!
