Birthday Continued
Sep. 19th, 2023 07:00 pmIn my previous post I mentioned my 40th birthday celebrations at The Shard and Hawksmoor. But the fun didn't end there! The next day Paul and I went into Kingston and tried our hand at The King's Quest, which was an interactive treasure hunt where you go around the place solving riddles and finding answers to clues. It was so much fun! And I very much want to do another. There's one in Richmond which I hope we can do soon. As Paul pointed out it'll probably be a bit more challenging cos we're a lot less familiar with Richmond than Kingston. So we may have to look around a bit more to work out what we need to do. But I'm up for the challenge! We solved this one in an hour and 19 minutes without using any hints.
We also went to Starbucks and I was really looking forward to trying something from their autumn menu cos I love all things autumn. The weather didn't get the memo though and decided that 30C was a reasonable temperature for September! So I went for an iced salted maple and caramel latte with a slice of caramelised biscuit cake. Both were delicious.
After we solved the Quest we did a bit of shopping in Kingston and I was on the hunt for a suitable prize for the Rugby World Cup Family Sweepstakes. I was hoping for a chocolate rugby ball, but couldn't find one. But I did get this:

It feels appropriately celebratory and special enough to be a prize.
The family sweepstakes are almost the same as usual. Everyone has been randomly assigned a team in each group so we all start evenly. But unlike the football groups, the rugby world cup has five teams in each group instead of four. I did consider just splitting the remaining teams between the four of us so we all had a group where we had two teams instead of one, but then thought it would be more fun to bring Tormund into the game. So he's in the sweepstakes now. Of course this means I'll have to find a new prize if he ends up winning, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!
Back at home my birthday continued with a card from Emma and a card and presents from Sonja that had arrived over the weekend:

Sonja always wraps her presents so neatly. The ones that I send her never look this nice!

Look at the lovely things she sent me! And her card in between the card that came with Rob's flowers and Emma's card.
I finished off the weekend by donating blood on Monday. The lady had a bit of trouble getting the needle in and I still have a bruise. And I took the opportunity of being in town to try another autumn drink, this time the maple hazel latte from Costa. It was good, but the salted maple caramel was better!
