I have recently discovered that I never finished posting my Hastings and Rye photos. I was sure that I'd done so, but I've checked and nope. Only the one day. Weird.
So, without further ado, I give you the second day of my trip. Only nearly ten months late...
Saturday: Around and About
We began by making the drive over from Rye to Hastings to see the sea.

Not the sunniest of days, but not bad either.

I do love a sea front.
We headed into the Old Town and found this:

I'm not quite sure what's going on here, but they look like they belong in Harry Potter.

Ye Olde Pumphouse. If only we'd been there in the evening I would have loved to have a drink here!

George Street is Proud!

This is at the mini golf course. We played a round, which Paul won because of course he did. He also won a free game at the end, which we still need to go back and redeem at some point.
Of course one of the things Hastings is most famous for is some kind of battle that was fought there nearly a thousand years ago. Except the Battle of Hastings wasn't fought in Hastings itself, but nearby. In a place conveniently called Battle.
So our next stop was Battle Abbey:

A view of Battle from inside Battle Abbey.
The abbey is built on the site of the battle and you can walk around the field. Where you find sights such as this:

I think he's fired the arrow that you can just about see in the middle of the picture.

Love a ruin.

I take pictures of flowers. We all know this by now!

Some weirdo standing in front of the ruins.

In case you can't read it, this slab is supposed to mark the spot where King Harold died. It's probably as good a place as any!

Me again, slightly dwarfed by the abbey.
Upon our return to Rye I persuaded Paul to climb up the church tower with me. I had fond memories of doing it with Dad and Rob when I was younger.

I remembered this part. I loved how you had to climb up little ladders and around the bells to reach the little door that led out to the top.

I forgot how high it actually was in the end! Paul went straight back inside and waited for me at the bottom while I had a look around.

Ypres Tower and the river.

You may think this is a picture of Ypres, but far more interesting is the seagull perched on the tower in front of it!

The train station and beyond.

Selfie at the top of the church!

The aforementioned bells on my way down.
We then went into Ypres Tower, which had a balcony with a height much more suited to Paul:

And a view of the pub garden where we drank the night before!

Speaking of places where we drank the night before, this is the Waterworks. I wish we'd had more opportunities to go there.
Instead we headed over to Camber Sands. Walking over to the beach itself from the car park was a bit of a workout...

So sandy! So difficult to walk up!

Worth it though.

A bit sunnier than the morning at Hastings.

I wanted a picture of myself on the beach. I wish I didn't look so bad.
We then headed back to Rye for a visit to somewhere I was very excited to go to:

Jempson's Supermarket!
Now, this isn't the original Jempson's. The original Jempson's was in Peasmarsh and I couldn't take Paul to it because it no longer exists. There is a supermarket there called Jempson's, but it's not the original one. I have so many memories of the original one from my childhood it actually kinda hurts to go to the new one and see its soulless modern interior. But since the one in Rye was a completely new entity, I was excited to see it.
I bought quite a lot of food there, including a chocolate cake that was just like I remembered. That made me happy!
In the evening we went to the Mermaid Inn for dinner:

Ooh, so pretty.

We had a drink first, at this bar around the back.

We sat outside, which was quite nice but I would have loved to have had a drink inside the bar.

We did go inside for dinner, which was at the front of the inn.
The whole meal was excellent, but I had to take a picture of my dessert because...

The sugar shard looks like a cute little dragon!
So that was Saturday. One more day to go, which hopefully will not take me another ten months to post!
