Part 5: Cape Breton

We said our farewells to Prince Edward Island and sailed back to Nova Scotia.



It was windy, but fortunately the weather was still gloriously sunny.




One of my main reasons for wanting to go in September/October was to see the beautiful autumn leaves. As you can see, a lot of those leaves were still very green. It was still beautiful though.


Our first stop in Cape Breton was here:



The Glenora Whisky Distillery.



It was a very pretty little place. And the whisky wasn't bad either.



Look! Autumn colours! At least there were some trees that knew what the tourists wanted!

The next morning we headed further north, past the low hanging mist, up to the Cabot Trail. Reported to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world.



I had to take this picture cos when you search for images of the Cabot Trail so many of them are of this view.



This stop had a pretty view as well, which is good cos we were kept here for about twenty minutes while they closed the road. Why did they close the road, you ask?



To film a Nissan advert. I look forward to watching this when it comes on TV so I can point at it and go "I was there!"


The Cabot Trail has a lot of stops where you can walk or hike further into the area but we didn't have time to go too far. We were able to do one of the shorter walks though,



The Bog Walk!



I'm not sure what these are but they're very pretty.

The Cabot Trail also has lots of stops with amazing views.

We may no longer be on Prince Edward Island, but there's no shortage of lighthouses here either.

The weather had been pretty good for most of our drive, but the clouds were closing in towards the end of the day and the sun was definitely in hiding by the time we reached our hotel.



The Keltic Lodge. This is the view from our room. Pretty nice.



They do weddings here and I can definitely see how this would be a beautiful place to get married on a nice day.
