I really do like Jennifer Aniston's red dress.

Costume Design: Anna Karenina. And I'm back on form. Along with the Random Number Generator.

Makeup and Hairstyling: Les Miserables. I want this film to win everything cos I love hearing the music play. Also more points for me in the predictions game!

I'm going to slap you Seth MacFarlane.

And now we're celebrating 50 years of James Bond. I actually watched Skyfall for the first time yesterday. Shirley Bassey is singing Goldfinger and all I can hear in my head is Homer Simpson singing Max Power.

Jamie Foxx's bowtie is glittery. I love it.

Short Film: Curfew. A point for Paul.

Documentary Short: Innocente. Another point for Paul.

More Best Picture introductions. I've not seen any of these three.

Documentary Film: Searching for Sugar Man. You're really good at these categories, Paul!

Hey, Jennifer Garner's presenting an award. I still hate your dress, Jen.

Foreign Language Film: Amour. Not a huge surprise. Congratulations Random Number Generator.

And now John Travolta's here. Are we going to have another musical number? Yes. Yes we are. Actually no, it's not 'a' musical number. It's a celebration of musicals! Catherine Zeta-Jones doing All That Jazz from Chicago. Jennifer Hudson doing And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going from Dreamgirls. Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, Aaron Tevit, Russel Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen doing a medley of songs from Les Miserables. This is so perfect I could cry.

Back in the studio Boyd says this is a really good evening if you like musicals. I love musicals. And they all agree that Anne Hathaway is going to walk away with the Oscar. "Let's all go watch Anne Hathaway win an award." Lol, best segue ever.

But first we have...

Sound Mixing: Les Miserables. Point to me.

Sound Editing: Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall. I don't think I've ever seen a tie before. And I'm amused that even with two winners, Paul and I still both didn't get any points. The Random Number Generator got one though.

Lol, Sound of Music reference. Brilliant.

Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway. She just hugged Hugh Jackman and he looks so happy for her I think my heart exploded!

Points all round there, except for the Random Number Generator who foolishly went for Sally Field in that category. Tut.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Aaaaand here we go. Seth MacFarlane seems an odd choice but we shall see. Is he going to do a musical number?

Ok, good joke about Argo there. Poor Ben Affleck.

Is that guy wearing a banana pin?

Hey, Captain Kirk. Of course. This makes perfect sense. And yes, Seth is going to do a musical number. About boobs. I'm not quite sure what I'm watching here.

Another musical number already? Neat. I do love how this has become a thing with the Oscars now.

And now I don't need to see Flight. The real thing couldn't possibly be as good as the sockpuppet version.

More singing and dancing. When Daniel Radcliffe said he would be performing later this is not what I expected.

I'm actually really liking this whole Captain Kirk skit.

And now they're all singing an Oscar version of Be Our Guest. I... I think I love it.

Ok, well done Seth MacFarlane. You have won me over.

And now we're on to the actual awards. Best Supporting Actor is first. And the winner is... Christoph Waltz. This is good for me since I am now one up on both Paul and the Random Number Generator. Hopefully I can continue this success!

Oh my god, Paul Rudd and Melissa McCarthy just get on with it. You're not funny and this is painful. It's Best Animated Short. Paperman won and I am continuing with my success.

And straight on to Best Animated Film. It went to Brave. I'm actually shocked even though I predicted it!

Can we stop the Oscars now? I like this 100% success rate I'm currently on!

They're now introducing some of the Best Picture nominees. Les Mis is first and oh I love it so much.

Back to the awards now:

Cinematography: Life of Pi. That's 4/4 for me. This is going to hurt so much more when I get one wrong!

Visual Effects: Life of Pi. Ah well, my winning streak couldn't last forever. Congratulations to both Paul and the Random Number Generator for their first points!

Are... are they being played off by the Jaws theme?
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Yay, Hugh Jackman! You can't juggle Kristin, Hugh. Put her down.

Aw, DanRad you seem nervous. Poor baby.

Jennifer Aniston looking lovely in red. I spy Adele behind her.

I love the colour of your dress Jennifer Garner, but I do not love the style. It does not look good.

Halle Berry looks like she belongs in the 90s. That is a very stripy metallic dress there.

Adele is very sparkly. And I love how she's just loudly babbling away!

George Clooney is going to be drinking. I'm with you, George.

Speaking of which, this is the trouble with the Oscars. It's sponsored by Moet et Chandon so every time there's an advert break it makes me want champagne.

Finally a proper look at Amy Adams's dress. I really like it.

Anne Hathaway. Oh dear. I love you Anne and I want you to win but I hate that dress. It's terrible.

Jamie Foxx's daughter is gorgeous. And I love her dress. I want it.

Back in the studio they're talking about best dressed. Colin says Charlize Theron. I disagree. Antonia says Amanda Seyfried or Jennifer Garner. I vehemently disagree about Jennifer. Amanda looked pretty good though. And Boyd says Jennifer Lawrence or Adele. Hmm.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
So we have Alex Zane as the host of our bit again. And with him we have the reviews editor of Heat magazine Boyd Hilton, fashionista Antonia O'Brien, and actor Colin Salmon. And Lucy Cotter on the red carpet as usual. I wonder if she'll actually talk to anyone this year.

The men do not like Les Miserables. What.

Oh hey, Kristin Chenoweth. Does this mean that once again Lucy Cotter isn't actually talking to anyone on the red carpet? Yes, I think that's exactly what it means.

Jessica Chastain is looking rather pretty.

Amanda Seyfried is also looking very pretty, although she's apparently on the verge of losing her internal organs. Good to know.

Jennifer Lawrence is a giant. A gorgeous giant. Although I'm not a huge fan of that style of dress.

Zoe Saldana is looking lovely. I'm not sure about her dress either though.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is very shiny.

Hey, Daniel Radcliffe.

That's a very metallic dress Naomi Watts.

Nicole Kidman is a stick. I think I want to hate that dress but it actually works on her. Weird.

That is not a dress, Charlize Theron, and I do not approve of it.

It's that time of year again. Time for dresses and champagne and films I haven't actually seen. Yes, it's Oscar Night!

Originally I hadn't been planning on staying up for it; now that I'm an old lady I need my sleep before work. But then on Friday I was asked to switch shifts tomorrow and now I don't have to be in until 12, so I figured this is a sign and I should take advantage of it.

Paul and I have made our predictions as usual. We also used a random number generator to make a third set and if it beats us I think we might die of shame.

Oscarszzzz

Ok, it's time. I am already tired, which isn't a good sign. And the cat keeps trying to jump on my laptop. I'm not sure if he wants to write his own posts or just stop me from saying anything. Either way he's not happy with me for shifting him off.

Hey, Tonks from the Harry Potter films is on the discussion panel. Cool.

Lucy Cotter is on the red carpet. Hopefully she'll have better luck this year since I seem to remember that last time she was in such a bad position that we had to cut to an American feed in order to actually see anything. Judging by how few people are around her I'm not hopeful.

Hmm, I don't think I'm going to last. I'm thinking about recording it and watching it tomorrow when I get in from work. It's not quite the same, which will be a shame, but I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy it tonight and what's the point of forcing myself to watch something I'm not going to enjoy?

Of course if I find out who's won it won't be as fun either, but I can try to avoid that. It'll be like that episode of How I Met Your Mother where they record the Superbowl and try to make it through the day without finding out who won. (I'm not hopeful about my chances for that either. Especially not with the big awards.) QQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

And those 'Q's are from McGee, who is once again trying to climb on my laptop. I think he's judging me.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
It's that time of year again - Oscar time! Paul and I have made our predictions but we're not doing our usual thing of staying up and watching the ceremony together this year.

I'm hoping to watch some but I still have work tomorrow so I can't stay up too late. And the ceremony itself doesn't start until 1:30am so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to stay awake for. Hopefully I'll be able to see some of the red carpet though.

So be warned, I may or may not be spamming your friends pages with Oscar liveblogging tonight. We'll see.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Well, last night was fun. Although I feel very bleh today. I think I need to go do something that doesn't require any brainpower now. But first, as promised, my dresses roundup post.

Ones I Liked )

Ones I'm Not Sure About )

Ones I Didn't Like )

No final Not a Dress this year because there weren't any guys who looked interesting enough to bother to post. :(
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Oh god, it's Celine Dion. Singing Smile, which I think has to be one of the most depressing songs ever written. Which is appropriate since it's for the In Memoriam segment.

Aw, Leslie Nielsen.

Anne Hathaway has changed again.

Best Director - The King's Speech. Interesting. Heh, man-love.

I really want to slap Robbie Collin. He's pissing me off so much.

Time for best actress. Is it just me or does Jennifer Lawrence look like Hayden Panettiere? Should I be worried that I keep thinking people look like other people tonight?

Best Actress - Natalie Portman. Total non-surprise there.

Sandy's here to present best actor. If Colin doesn't get this there's going to be an uprising.

Best Actor - Colin Firth. Hollywood is safe.

Anne Hathaway has changed again.

Time for the big one. I'm really not sure how this one will go. I predicted The King's Speech but I'm not confident.

Best Picture - The King's Speech. Yay.

Final Scores:

Caroline: 16
Paul: 8

Now, to work out what to spend my winnings on!

So that's it. Another ceremony over. I thought it was pretty good this year, especially Anne Hathaway. She was brilliant.

There seemed to be less focus on entertaining this time, it was more about giving out awards. That worked well, although I must admit to being slightly disappointed at not having as much to flail about/laugh at as I was writing these entries.

But now it's nearly 5am and I really should go to bed. I'll probably do my usual dresses round up post tomorrow later today, assuming I can find some dresses I actually like!
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Anne Hathaway has changed again.

Oh. My. God. They're autotuning Harry Potter! And some other films. AND TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE! THIS IS AMAZING! Damn, that should have been longer.

Also, Anne Hathaway, I think I love you. Just saying.

Hey, Oprah! Looking good. I like your dress.

Documentary - Inside Job. Another point to me.

McGee is still on the sofa with us but he has his paw over his face. Does that mean that he doesn't approve of the Oscars? Or does he just want us to go away!

I'm now eating mini eggs. I love mini eggs. It's not Easter but I don't even care. Mini eggs are amazing.

I think I should have more wine.

Hey, it's Sherlock and Watson! I ship it.

Visual Effects. If Inception doesn't win this then there is no justice in the world. But it does, so we can all rest easy.

Editing - The Social Network.

Anne Hathaway has changed again.

More singing. I like Florence Welch's dress here.

Gwyneth Paltrow does not look good.

We must be coming to the end of the ceremony soon. Just the big four to go!
crystalcazzie: (Default)
These people look very American. And I'm sure that joke made sense to Americans.

Anne Hathaway has changed again. Not too sure about this dress, I think it flares out in the wrong place.

Hugh Jackman! I love you Hugh Jackman! Sort out your hair, though.

Hey, Star Wars. And something. And... ET? And something else. If this is supposed to show how music and films are so linked that hearing the music makes you think of the film then I think I fail.

Original Score - The Social Network. I'm getting quite a good lead here, but I don't want to be too happy about it. There's still time for it all to turn around!

Sound Mixing - Inception.

Sound Editing - Inception.

Ok, I think I can be pleased now. Looking at the remaining categories and our predictions, I don't think it's possible for me to lose.

Current score:

Caroline: 8
Paul: 2

What's with the shoulder things, Cate Blanchett? How did I miss those before?

Makeup - The Wolfman.

Costume Design - Alice in Wonderland. Paul clawing his way back up with a point there!

No, Kevin Spacey, you are not Drunk George. And we are sad for that. I miss Drunk George.

Hey, Chuck! Chuck is at the Oscars! Are you there for a secret CIA mission? Is Anne Hathaway an evil double agent? Where's Sarah? I bet she'd look good in an Oscar dress.

Lol, Jake Gyllenhaal said that Shorts are the hardest to predict on home ballots. That's why we don't include them on ours!
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Best Animated Short. We didn't predict this one, even though The Gruffalo is one of the only two films I've actually seen out of all the nominees this year! But the winner was The Lost Thing.

Best Animated Feature Film. It's got to be Toy Story 3, hasn't it? Yes, yes it has. First points of the night! Paul and I are now tied on one each.

Adapted Screenplay. The Social Network. We're now on two each! I love how he's just ignoring the music. He's going to finish his acceptance speech, no matter what you play at him!

Original Screenplay. We differ with our predictions here, so are we finally going to stop being tied? Yes. I have taken the lead thanks to The King's Speech!

Anne Hathaway's changed again! Ooh, singing. Yes, the singing two years ago was awesome. This singing is pretty good too. Hugh Jackman looking kinda terrified in the audience there. What has he done to his hair? I might have to have words with him about that.

I have no idea what is going on here with the Marilyn dress.

Russell and Helen! Represent the UK!

Foreign Language Film - In a Better World

Supporting Actor - Christian Bale. He of the scary beard that completely does not match his hair. I mean, seriously, has nobody told him how ridiculous he looks? And how much he looks like Keanu Reeves, for that matter.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
And it's ceremony time! Yay!

So far so good, I'm liking the film-hopping opening. It's actually funny! And it has God Morgan Freeman in it! Awesome. I hope the rest of the ceremony continues this way!

Anne Hathaway has already changed dresses. I like this one, although I would prefer slightly fewer silver bits.

And her mother's in on the act too. Between this, people bringing their mothers and the mominees tweeting, it looks like mums are taking over the Academy!

Titanic was over a decade ago! I mean I knew that, but hearing Tom Hanks emphasis it so much makes me feel old.

First award of the night - Art Direction. Paul and I have different predictions for this so it'll be interesting to see who takes the early lead... And it's neither of us cos neither of us put Alice in Wonderland. Lol.

Cinematography. Inception. Still no points for either of us. Oh my god, we're rubbish at this.

I should probably also point out that now the ceremony's started Paul and I have cracked open the Cava, so my posts may start making less and less sense.

James Franco looks kinda like James Marsden, or is that just me?

Wow, Kirk Douglas. Tom Hanks doesn't look so old now!

Best Supporting Actress. I say Hailee, Paul says Helena. I just don't want it to be Melissa.

Dammit. Melissa Leo. Paul and I are still tied on nil/nil.

Dresses

Feb. 28th, 2011 01:23 am
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Cate Blanchett, what is with the weird baubles on your dress? And that strange shell circle in the middle? It's a rather odd look.

Marisa Tomei continuing the Oscar tradition of exploding dresses. First I've seen this year but I'm sure it won't be the last.

Scarlett Johansson has the figure to pull off such a clingy dress, but I'm still not sure about it.

Matthew McConaughey looks old. His wife looks gorgeous. I love her dress, I think it's my favourite of all the ones I've seen so far!

Anne Hathaway in what would be a pretty dress if it didn't have stupid extra bits stuck on the back.

Reece Witherspoon is looking very pretty but again I'm not sure about her dress. Where are all the good dresses? I want good dresses, dammit! I'm feeling very boring saying the same thing over and over again.

Jennifer Hudson. Nice dress but the top part looks weird.

Natalie Portman. Could it be? A dress I actually like? Amazing! Love the colour and the style works really well for her pregnancy figure.

Tim's interviewing Justin Timberlake. Maybe we are watching the same thing as you Zero, just a bit delayed!

Sandra Bullock. Pretty nice dress there. Is that Gwyneth Paltrow in the background in a hideous silver thing?

Apparently there is now a fashion for dresses to have a square gap cut between the breasts. Who knew.

Finally!

Feb. 28th, 2011 12:45 am
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Oh finally, we actually get to go to the red carpet.

Yes, Lucy Cotter, I agree that it's more exciting there than in the studio. I'm going to assume your surprised tone was you being sarcastic and making a point about the amount of time we've wasted with the panel instead of being with you.

Oh, and now we're going back to talk more about the films. Great. Maybe I should take a nap before we get to the good bits.

But I do have to wonder why Robbie Collin couldn't get trousers that fit. Did he not realise he was going to be on TV this evening?

Hey, we're now with some American lady explaining the theatre to us. There are actually people around her. Yay for stuff happening!

Ooh, backstage. That's a fancy greenroom.

Hey, Mila Kunis! Looking pretty although I'm not sure about the dress. And Hailee Steinfeld. Her dress is gorgeous but she does look about eight. And Jesse Eisenberg. Men are boring, they all wear the same. Except Nick Park, but there's no Wallace and Gromit this year.

Amy Adams. Interesting dress. It looks rather... solid.

Jennifer Lawrence. In a red Baywatch-esque dress! Nice.

It's Russell Brand looking almost normal. That must have been difficult for him. And he brought his mum. Awww!

Melissa Leo is wearing a giant doily.

I do wonder if Lucy Cotter was in a bad position and Sky had to show an American thing instead because she wasn't getting any interviews or seeing anyone. It did look very quiet there when we cut to her earlier.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
I thought this was supposed to be the red carpet? Instead we've got the panel yakking about the top three films. I'm surprised that they've included True Grit in with The King's Speech and The Social Network though. I'd have said Black Swan was more of a contender than that one.

Ok guys, I know the Oscars are about films and all but I really don't care what you lot have to say about them. I want to see some dresses. If I'm missing good dresses for this, I'm going to hurt someone.

And adverts. I am not happy about this.
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Here we go! Oscar time! Yay!

Paul and I are here again with our snacks and Mountain Dew and CyberCandy bet. This year we're also joined by McGee the cat, who I'm sure has predicted all the categories perfectly but he's not telling.

Our host is Alex Zane? Really? Huh, could be good. I wonder who he has with him. Hopefully they won't anger me this year.

Ok, apparently Alex Zane's panel is made up of Brix Smith-Start, Edith Bowman and Robbie Collin. I have no idea who Brix or Robbie even are. Also, Brix looks ridiculous in that outfit.

And our red carpet reporter is Lucy Cotter. What's with all these people I've never heard of?

Hopefully I'll have more to say once the celebrities start arriving...
crystalcazzie: (Default)
I've been feeling rather down for the past week so I've been watching a lot of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman to feel better and, oh my god, I'd forgotten just how much I love this series. It's amazing! I've also dived straight back into fanfiction for it, which is like meeting up with an old friend.

It has reminded me of something though, which is bugging me because I can't remember what it is, and I was wondering if my flist might be able to help out. Clark's early proposal to Lois made me think of it; I'm sure I can remember a TV series where there was a male/female couple who were obviously supposed to be together and something happened and the man proposed to the woman before they were even romantically involved. It's driving me crazy cos I can't remember what it is. Part of me thinks I'm just misremembering Lois and Clark, but I was sure that there was no romantic relationship at all before the proposal in the one I'm thinking of.

So flist, any ideas? Or am I making it up?

Also, this is probably a good time to warn you all that the Oscars are on Sunday and I will be doing my, by now traditional, thing of staying up late and posting about it as I get progressively drunker and more tired as the night goes on. So you may end up with a Friends Page which is just post after post of me and my ramblings. Enjoy!
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Well, wasn't last night fun? I'm still alive although very tired and my head is killing me.

Comparing it to last year I'd say the night itself was a lot more fun because this time I had Paul and Zero and champagne, but the ceremony itself wasn't as good. As awesome as Neil Patrick Harris was, his song didn't come anywhere near the epic awesomeness of Hugh Jackman's opening number. And I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin should have had more to do.

Anyway, on to the dresses:

Ones I Liked )

Ones I'm Not Sure About )

Ones I Don't Like )

And as with last year I feel I must give a mention to a certain man who was there:

Not A Dress )
crystalcazzie: (Default)
Ok, time for Best Actress. I suppose this is a nice way of doing it, at least all the nominees get lots of nice things said about them.

No, Morgan Freeman. You are awesome and all but you are not nominated for best actress.

Best Actress - Sandra Bullock. Yay. Since Paul and I predicted the same things for the remaining two awards this means that I win! Woo hoo! Cyber Candy here I come!

Directing - Kathryn Bigelow. Yay again! I can't believe it's taken this long for a woman to win it!

Tom Hanks! Here to do Best Picture.

Wait... that was it? No build up? No reading of nominees? Just the winner is. I suppose that's why they were introducing all the films throughout the evening but still, that seemed awfully abrupt.

Bes Picture - The Hurt Locker.

Well that was a fun evening. Zero, did you make it till the end?

Final Results:
Caroline wants: 9
Caroline thinks: 14

Paul wants: 7
Paul thinks: 12

Yay me!
