Mice

I want mice.

Yes, I know a few days ago I wanted snow but now I want mice. I'm a very fickle person.

There are many problems with this, of course, that I shall now lay out in an orderly fashion:

1. I don't know where I get any. <-- Kind of a big problem this one.
2. I need a cage/bedding/food/everything necessary for keeping mice. I did think about getting the old hamster cage from home but apparently mice are so small the bars would probably be too big for them. <-- Also carries the problem of where to get them.
3. Transport. Suppose I did find a place to buy all this stuff, would I be able to get it back on the bus? And what about the mice themselves? <-- Possible solution, look for shop in Herne Bay and walk. <-- Possible problem, not actually sure how to get into Herne Bay since I don't live in the town itself.
4. Going home. Would it be too traumatic for the mice to make the journey home with me? I don't know how they'd take a car ride.
5. At home. I'd have to leave them for a week when I went to America and have family take care of them. Also, I'm not sure where in the house they'd go. Train Room I guess, but I wouldn't really see them much then.
6. Oh, yeah. Tenancy agreement, no pets. But the landlady hardly ever visits and I think I'd be okay so this is probably the least of my concerns to be honest.

So really, all logic is telling me this is a bad idea. But I want mice!! They're so cute and sweet and I really think I could take good care of them. Plus I think it would be good for me to have something to focus on and look after. Pets make great anti-depressants.

Yeah, I have gerbils myself and found them to be kinda cool.

1. There's Pets At Home in Wincheap, another pet shop on the way to that, and there's a pet shop on Northgate opposite the Penny Theatre as well. If you take either Wincheap option then I live pretty near there so could help.
2. Wilkinsons have most of this stuff pretty cheap. Again, shops mentioned above also.
3. As for getting back, you'd need to get taxis probably or at the very least someone to help you take things on the bus.
4. They would probably manage a car ride, you'd need to hold them though and not just throw them in the boot of course.
5. Can't help you there. ;)
6. Yeah, I wouldn't worry.

Just go for it. My gerbils have been fabulous.

I'm quite ashamed to admit that I do not know any of the places you just mentioned. I really should get to know the area I live in better!

Hmm, maybe if I do two journeys, take the cage and bedding etc on the bus one day and then bring the mice themselves seperately. Unless you want to help me on the bus, I could show you my nice new Herne Bay house and the evil housemate. (I can offer a bribe of pizza, which I beileve is how I conned you into visiting Whitstable...)

Throw my mice in the boot! Never! Poor little babies. (See how attached I am, and I don't even have them yet!)

And I've decided the answer to number 5 is to let it work itself out. I'm sure when I take the adorable things home Mum won't mind looking after them for a week. I'll just get them to look sweet and impossible to resist.

My brother recently got 2 "female" mice. Heh. 4 babies later...
Oh, and those babies had babies, but I'm not sure how many. I'd give you a couple if I could. :)
They are Egyptian Spiny mice, not regular mice though.

I want two females to keep each other company and I'm worried that that's going to happen!

It reminds me of when we got a hamster, and a few days later ended up with a whole load of baby hamsters!

I don't think I've ever seen Egyptian Spiny mice. I'm sure they're cute though.

Ratties! Ratties are cuter than mice... or maybe I'm just so in love with my ratties that I think they're perfect.

I went to a pet store and just got mine, I was lucky that the store had babies and that they were handled since birth. I had a car, so that covered the transport issue. And they live in my room, and Mum loves them now. I don't think traveling would be horrible. I know the ratties didn't mind the car ride home too much. Just keep them in a little box and talk to them and pet them and they should be fine.

I dont know who's going to take care of them when I go to CT though... hopefully Amy can.

I decided on mice because a. you already have ratties and b. I don't have much room so mice would be better. Don't want to squash the poor rats into a tiny cage!

See, my problem is I don't know where there is a pet store. I mean, I've found a couple but they just have supplies not animals themselves. Tomorrow I plan to go and look for cages and stuff.

I'm worried about travel home cos it'll be an hour or two in a car. I'm thinking if I keep them in their cage on my lap maybe it'll be familiar enough not to scare them.

And I'm worried about the bus ride cos it's quite long, and they'll already have the stress of being taken out of their home in the pet shop and put in a box.

I think I'm overly worried because of Smartie, he was a hamster Robert and I got but he was very nervous on the car ride home (only a few minutes) and died a few weeks later. I think he was just nervous by nature though.

You can have ratties even though I do. But yeah mice means a smaller cage. I'm going to have to make (cause it's cheaper and cooler) a bigger cage once my babies get older.

Phone book Lovey. That's what they're for. Or look online. Do a Google Search! But you can get the cages and junk and set up this way it's all ready for them.

Yeah, you can even get a smaller travel cage so the normal cage isn't so bulky on your lap and leave the normal cage in the boot (I should sooo British). Two hours probably dont be so bad. I had the cats in the car for three days. They get used to the movement and just kinda settle down and sleep.

Like I said before, just talk to them and make them feel comfortable and okay. They might be so out of sorts that they don't even notice the bus ride. They wouldn't ever know what a bus ride feels like either.

Smartie was probably just a nervous hamster in general.

I don't think I have a phone book. I've tried Google, but they weren't really much help.

Yay boot! I jsut wonder if it will be worse for smaller animals. I mean, Breeze can take a car ride. She just curls up and goes to sleep but maybe mice, being so small, would feel it more.

Having said that I think there was a mouse living in my parents car, so I suppose it can't be that bad.

Today I'm looking for everything I need. If I have time I might get the mice too, if not I plan to go tomorrow. I'm so excited!

Nope. I think David stole it. I'm sure I remember it being delivered but now it's nowhere to be found. I did find some out of date directories though.
