Hen Night

I was pretty much dreading this weekend cos it was my friend's hen night, and an evening of drinking at Wetherspoons and partying at Popworld is really not my idea of a good time, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had.

A few of us started off by getting dinner at Friday's before joining everyone else for jugs of cocktails at Wetherspoons and then onto Popworld after that. Popworld was the bit that I was most worried about but it was good, albeit a little louder than I would have liked. We had our own little cordoned off VIP area, which was really cool, and it came with sweets and lots of booze. (Seriously, so much booze! We had a bottle of Prosecco, a bottle of vodka, cans of Red Bull, and some kind of mixed vodka orange drink.) I avoided the vodka, Red Bull, and mixed drink, but I did add popping candy to my glass of Prosecco and was very pleased with the results.

It being a hen night, of course, there were the usual obligatory penis straws and a Pin the Cock on the Naked Man game. But other than that it was fairly tame. (Do you like how I'm acting like some hen party veteran here, despite the fact that this was the first one I've ever actually been on? I've watched TV. I know how these things go!)

I had to leave around 11:30 to get the last train back, which was probably a good thing because I was reaching my limit by that point. I think if I'd stayed till 2:30 it would have definitely stopped being fun. I am glad I was there long enough to dance to Tragedy by Steps though. I almost never dance, but there are a few songs where I think it's the law that if you were a teenager in the 90s in Britain you have to jump up whenever they come on and Tragedy is definitely one of them.

Overall it was a really good evening. And I didn't feel as drunk as I thought I would. But that might be because the cocktails in Wetherspoons are about 95% sugar and only 5% actual alcohol.

Although that does bring me to the only downside of the evening, which was when one of my friends told me that another of our friends had been pouring other drinks into my wine at a birthday party we were at last year. Other friend denies this and I hope it's not true because that's a really shitty thing to do, but it does seem likely. I remember being sick that night and the next day I felt worse than I have ever felt before after a night of drinking. I couldn't understand why, because I really didn't think I'd had that much, but if someone had been spiking my drink without my knowledge that would certainly explain it.

Well done, America! I'm so happy for you! =D

I have returned from my London adventure! Which, I realise, I didn't actually mention that I was going on, but yeah. I'm back now. I went to London on Saturday and stayed with my friend for the next few days. We went to a couple of concerts, watched Eurovision, baked biscuits, and, on days when he had to work, I found ways to amuse myself out and about. (I'm really proud of myself for that last one cos my social anxiety was like "Just stay inside and watch his Netflix all day" but I told it "NO! No, I am in London, the sun is shining, I have no work and all this free time. I am going to DO STUFF!" And stuff I did.

I'm going to come back and make proper entries later cos I want to give my adventure all the detail it deserves and I don't really have time for that right now. Hopefully tomorrow. It'll give me another excuse to put off tidying the living room, which I desperately need to do but keep not doing. Yay procrastination!

Also, I am currently drinking T.E.A. It's a bitter, which I never thought I would like but it's actually pretty good.

Yesterday I spent a very enjoyable afternoon playing Mario Kart 8 with a group of friends and, after five hours of racing, one person emerged as the overall victor. That person was me. I AM THE QUEEN OF MARIO KART!

I even got a lovely trophy to celebrate my accomplishment:

See )

Yes, I am looking ever so slightly psychotic there. Possibly because it's wine. Possibly because I'd been playing Mario Kart for five hours and had lost all sense of reason. Either way, it is now sitting beside me and will soon be taking pride of place somewhere in my house so I can show it off at every opportunity.

It's a shame I couldn't have Mario Karted my way home today. A tree on the line meant delays to one of my trains, which meant I missed my connection and had to hang around 45 minutes for another one, which meant I got home about an hour and a half later than I had planned. But it's all good. Could have been worse. While I was at the station waiting to hear about my delayed train I also heard "We're sorry to announce that the 13:51 service to London Paddington is delayed by approximately 109 minutes." So it's a good thing I wasn't going to London Paddington.

Happy belated New Year, everyone! I know I'm a bit late with my annual memes. I blame a combination of LJ being down and me being distracted with other things, ooh, shiny...

Happy 12/12/12 everybody!

I have loved every one of these dates for the past twelve years and it does make me genuinely sad that this is the last one I will ever see. Unless I live to be 117, of course, which I suppose is possible nowadays.

I mean we'll still have things like 2/2/22, and while I'm sure I will love those dates too, especially since they'll be far more spread out, it's not quite the same.

Sorry, I'm just having a moment here.

*sighs happily*

Oh my god! Flailing so much over the Doctor Who minisode and trailer on Children in Need!

So... you may remember that a few weeks ago I asked if anyone wanted to see Dar Williams with me cos she was coming to London and I've loved her music for well over ten years now but never had the chance to see her before.

Well, my brother bought me tickets to see her for my birthday and I dragged Paul along with me and it was absolutely amazing! The venue was tiny and informal and absolutely lovely. She sang some of her older songs as well as ones from the new album and she was so nice and chatty between each one.

Then she hung around afterwards to sign things! I was not expecting that, so I didn't bring anything. I asked her to sign my ticket and apologised for not thinking to bring a CD. She said she was happy to sign anything so I said I'd make sure to bring the weirdest thing I could think of next time!

And then I got my picture taken with her:

I'm sorry that I look so bad. Paul and I had shared a bottle of wine and it stained my teeth rather badly! But it's a picture of me with Dar Williams! asefdakgjhdafgkjhdfagjkhdagjkv!

A couple of weeks ago this post came across my dash on Tumblr and I was inspired to try my hand at making my own comic book heels.

I didn't have high hopes about my ability to produce anything even halfway decent but I'm actually really pleased with how they turned out:

More pics under here )

As I said on Tumblr, I now need somewhere to show them off. Possibly another convention of some sort...

I have returned from the 11th Hour convention! And yes, I had a brilliant time. That's not to say there wasn't some serious anxiety, but I got through it and the good parts of the weekend definitely outweighed the bad.

Here, have some ramblings about my time there:

Hello LJ. I fear I have been neglecting you recently. I apologise.

I'm making a post now because I feel I should share my remarkably social Easter weekend with you. I spent the Saturday with friends and karaoke on the XBox. And I spent the Sunday with friends and Mario Kart on the Wii. I think I was more social on those two days than I have been in the rest of the year so far. So that was good.

It looks like my mission to become a functioning human being is coming along nicely. Excellent.

Apparently McGee doesn't approve of my decorating skills. From his position in a chair next to the tree he used his paw to pull one of the decorations from its branch and knocked it to the floor. He wasn't even playing with it, he just carefully removed it. I suppose he thinks he could have done a better job. Or maybe he just didn't like that particular decoration itself.

Also, it actually snowed today. Only briefly and then it was gone, but still. It was apparently enough to keep the customers away for a while. I was thinking about how weird it was not to be completely manic so close to Christmas, so of course we got really busy not long afterwards. Must be all that Multi Coloured Crack that we sell.

And now it is the weekend. Yay! I'm planning to make eggnog tomorrow and hopefully watch something Christmassy while doing so. Tis the season and all that. =D
crystalcazzie: (Snowman and Santa)
Less than two weeks to Christmas now, so I think it's safe to say we are officially in the festive season. I've changed to the Christmas icon and theme for my LJ. If I knew where my USB fairy lights were I'd have them round my laptop screen right now, but I don't and that makes me sad. Maybe I'll find them tomorrow when I continue decorating.

Today I dressed the tree. I'm like the Christmas fairy. People left the house with a bare tree in the living room and when they came back -bam- all pretty and decorated. The good thing about being the only person to do it is that all my decorations get to have pride of place at the top. Although, having said that, most of the decorations are mine anyway. Sometimes I think my family doesn't appreciate Christmas like I do.

London was good, although the Winter Wonderland was disappointing. It was too busy to enjoy it properly and we made a quick escape without actually doing anything. But no matter, other things were good. I got quite a lot of shopping done and I met Ian Hislop and Professor Brian Cox. All in all, a pretty successful trip.

Now I think it's about time to start my Christmas viewing. I shall have to make a list of appropriate films and TV episodes that I've got on DVD and work my way through them. All I know at the moment is that I'll be watching Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve because it's my tradition and I love it.

And with this post I win NaBloPoMo. I expect a prize, internet.

Congratulations to any NaNoWriMo winners. My traitorous mind has now come up with an idea for a story I really want to write. I think it waited a whole month on purpose just to mess with me. I'm going to try and write it anyway, but without the motivation of NaNo to spur me on I may not do very well.

Children in Need time! I have a Lego Pudsey to make up, so I'll be doing that soon. Not during the Doctor Who bit though cos I've heard that Matt Smith will be taking his clothes off in it and I feel that that requires my full attention. =D

Day 17

The next few days are looking particularly good for me:

Friday - Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 comes out. I've been looking forward to this from the very instant I completed Years 1-4.

Also Friday - Children in Need. Always a good show and promises to include a Doctor Who short, which I'm sure is going to be awesome and may just tide me over until Monday.

Saturday - No plans, so I'm free to spend hours playing Lego Harry Potter.

Sunday - Planning to see Breaking Dawn Part 1 with two of the guys from work. It's going to be hilarious.

Monday - Doctor Who series 6 box set comes out with extras including the Night and the Doctor mini-episodes that have had me worked up into a wibbly-wobbly ball of excitement and anticipation ever since I found out they existed.
