crystalcazzie: (DW Eleven/River)
I have to say, based on the adverts and all the build-up, I expected Downton Abbey to have been a bit more wrapped up last night than it turned out to be. I suppose Mary getting married was something, even if it did happen ridiculously quickly, but all their declarations of love fell a bit flat cos Henry's left no impression on me whatsoever and it felt like their wedding came out of nowhere. I know their romance has supposedly been building all season, but it hasn't felt like it. (In fact this is the first time all year I've actually remembered his name, which says a lot about how invested I've been in this storyline!)

At least they finally acknowledged that Mary might have some issues being married to a man who races cars when her first husband died in a car crash. Of course this only merited a short scene and then it was all forgotten again, but still. That's probably the best you can hope for with Downton now.

And I still think Bertie's going to go back to Edith. That's going to happen in the Christmas special. It has to.

Anyway, onto the November meme. Topic 5 is Favourite Romantic Pairing:

Now, I know I've been saying that pretty much every single topic so far is a tricky one, but this is definitely the hardest yet. Shipping is such a huge part of my fandom life and, as with TV shows, I usually go through stages of being super obsessed with a ship for a while before finding a new one and becoming super obsessed with that, but just because my super-obsession has moved on doesn't mean that I don't still love the old pairings or ship them any less. So rather than trying to pick one, I'm going to go with a top ten eleven in no particular order:

1. Eleven/River (Doctor Who)
2. Roslin/Adama (BSG)
3. Sydney/Vaughn (Alias)
4. Willow/Tara (Buffy)
5. Michael/Sara (Prison Break)
6. Chuck/Sarah (Chuck)
7. Xena/Gabrielle (Xena)
8. Castle/Beckett (Castle)
9. Max/Logan (Dark Angel)
10. Mulder/Scully (The X Files)
11. Brennan/Booth (Bones)

Even this was difficult and I keep thinking of other pairings that I could have put on the list. I may have a bit of a shipping problem...
crystalcazzie: (DW River hair)
It's November and that means I get to decide if I want to attempt NaNo again this year. I'm thinking probably not since I have enough trouble writing journal entries, let alone an entire 50,000 word story. But maybe I should have a go at writing something. Maybe my difficulty writing is because I'm out of practice and I should force myself to do it more. But I don't like the idea of writing something bad, even though I know I'm the only one who'll ever read it.

I could also attempt NaBloPoMo again. That's a bit easier since I don't have to write that much, just something every day. Of course in that case I'd have to remember to visit LJ on a regular basis, which could be an issue.

Hmm, I'll see how I feel. But for now, have some rambling about TV shows:

Things that make me realise it's definitely autumn: The Halloween blog I follow on Tumblr has woken up and my dash is now full of pumpkins and falling leaves, Christmas stuff is slowly making its way into the stockroom at work, and I find myself constantly talking about new episodes of my favourite TV shows.

So, [livejournal.com profile] rachg82 has suggested that I talk about TV, a subject which is very close to my heart, so I'm going to give it a go:

Annoyingly I have fallen behind in a lot of my TV watching. The new series of Bones hasn't started here yet and doesn't look like it's going to any time soon. I might try and find it online and catch up with the new episodes over the weekend.

I'm also about a season behind with NCIS, although I'm going to have to skip ahead and watch the upcoming episode with Alex Kingston in because it has Alex Kingston in and I will need to see it in order to properly flail with everyone on Tumblr.

I'm still not entirely happy with Merlin. But despite all my talk of giving up on it I'm still hopeful that it may pull it all back and wow me with a brilliant resolution to this storyline that makes up for all the crap it's putting me through now.

No new Doctor Who until Christmas. I absolutely loved the minisode and trailer that were shown on Children in Need last week. I'm so excited to see Jenna as the new companion and to find out how Clara and Oswin are going to be explained. I'm still hoping that they're the same character, but I also don't want Oswin's death to be Clara's end. So who knows what I want.

I've downloaded three episodes of American Horror Story: Asylum but haven't actually watched them yet. They're on the Sky box so I have to watch them in the living room and it's really not the kind of show I want to be watching when other people are around. Which is pretty much all the time. I shall have to work something out.

Recently we've been watching Elementary. It's good. I like it. Very different to Sherlock and, to be honest, other than the fact that the main character is named Sherlock Holmes it doesn't really seem related to the Sherlock Holmes stories at all. It's just another American drama series. Not that that's a bad thing, of course.

Downton Abbey finished a couple of weeks ago. I miss it already. I'm also worried that after that lovely, non-heartbreaking end to series three, which left everyone relatively happy and settled, the Christmas special is going to be full of misery and death. I don't trust that Julian Fellowes.

Right, well, I think that's everything for now. TV is fun.

Four Days

This holiday weekend I have been mostly:

- Sitting on the patio to make the most of the lovely weather. In fact that is where I am right now. Next to me I have a glass which used to contain ginger beer but which is now empty. Alas.

- Watching Bones. Well, two episodes. They were good, although I still don't really get this whole rogue sniper storyline that came out of nowhere.

- Watching Chuck. I love Chuck. I think what I love most about Chuck is that it's a happy programme. You can watch it safe in the knowledge that everything will be all right in the end, good will triumph over evil, the people you love will be happy and Chuck and Sarah will be together.

- Watching 'William and Kate: The Movie'. Now, I went into this knowing that it was going to be amazingly bad but I simply wasn't prepared for just how excruciatingly dire it was going to be. It had everything you could hope for in an American TV film about British royals. Terrible accents! American plug sockets in supposedly British houses! Prince William publicly singing karaoke to apologise for ignoring Kate at his birthday party! The University of St Andrews apparently being renamed St Andrews College and looking absolutely nothing like the university that I visited a few years ago! Constant references to university as 'school'! (It's that last one that got to me the most. If I'd had a drink for every time I shouted "We don't call university 'school', you idiots!" at the TV I'd have been completely wasted before the film was halfway through.)

- Sorted out my room. And by 'sorted out' I mean 'moved stuff from one big pile into other, slightly more organised piles.' That's really the only way I do any kind of tidying up.

- Sleeping weirdly. Apparently my body has decided that during the holidays I need to wake up around 4, stay away until around 8 and then, just when I'm thinking I could probably get up at this point, become so tired I can't keep my eyes open until around 10:30. It's rather annoying.

- Building puzzleballs. Two today.

- Watching Doctor Who. I should have mentioned it earlier but I forgot. Possibly because it was a bit of a blah episode that didn't exactly grab my attention. Hopefully it'll be better next week.
crystalcazzie: (Bones)
A week since my last post? That's shocking! I'm falling back into bad habits. But the thing is I haven't really felt like coming on LJ much these past few days (which is also why I've been such a failure at commenting lately. Sorry about that!) It also meant that I ended up keeping my Christmas theme for two days after Epiphany. Whoops.

Last night I went ice skating with some people from work. I only fell down once but I still ache all over today. Next time I go I want an empty ice rink and Booth to hold my hand!

Hey, everyone! Time for my New Year's memes. My answers this year are more upbeat than I can ever remember them being previously, which has to be a good thing!

I finally watched the Jersey Shore episode of Bones! I am very slowly catching up!

The whole Hannah storyline still bothers me though and I'll attempt to explain why. Please bear in mind that this is only based on seeing three episodes of season six so far and not being spoiled for any more:

I Actually Kinda Love Hannah )
crystalcazzie: (Procrastinators Unite)
I'm only on 8000 words of my NaNo novel. I still haven't caught up on my Bones viewing. I bought Beauty and the Beast on Blu-ray last week and still haven't watched any of it yet.

So what do I do today? I play LOTRO, which I haven't played in three months.

So apparently I'm now procrastinating things I actually want to do. Clearly there is something very wrong with me.

Bones 6.1

I watched the season six premier of Bones today and I found it very mediocre. It wasn't bad, necessarily, but nothing about it grabbed me. It didn't make me excited about the series being back and if it had been the first episode I saw I probably wouldn't have continued watching.

I wasn't going to even make a post about it, but after commenting about it so someone else I keep thinking of other things I could have mentioned. I won't make a full recap/review or anything like that, just a few points that will make no sense to the 90% of my friends list who don't actually watch Bones:

The Mastodon in the Room )
crystalcazzie: (Autumn Leaves)
So, yesterday was the first day of autumn. For weeks I've been looking forward to it and planned to make a post to celebrate but I still felt crappy so I didn't. I did change my journal theme to an autumnal one though, so yay for that!

Yesterday was also Bi Visibility day. I didn't wear purple myself because I have a uniform for work (annoyingly I used to have a purple shirt, but we got new red ones last week so I have to wear that now, otherwise I'd have been set.) I did have a fun time looking at various people and wondering if they were bi or just happened to be wearing purple that day, though.

Today I don't feel as bad as I have the past two days, so that's good. I'm very much looking forward to the weekend since I'm really hating on work at the moment. I'm not the only one though; lots of the people I work with have been talking about leaving. I really wish I knew what I wanted to do. At the moment I just want to find a job that doesn't involve direct interaction with customers, and that's kinda hard.

I see that the new TV season has started in America. It's making navigating my friends list and other sites a bit of a challenge as I try to work out which shows I'm going to have to watch online and which shows I don't mind being spoiled for (I've come to accept that there's no way to wait to watch shows when they air in the UK and remain unspoiled for them unless I stay off the internet completely and that's just not an option.)

I'm definitely going to be watching Bones online, but probably not until tomorrow so I'll just avoid most of LJ until then. I was always going to be watching that as soon as possible since it's my favourite show at the moment, but my decision has only been bolstered by the complete lack of any mention of season six or when it'll be airing on Sky One's website. It's like they've forgotten it exists. (Particularly annoying since as I'm writing this the TV has just shown an advert for Stargate Universe airing "just days after the States!")
crystalcazzie: (Grissom Sex Hat)
There is a CSI: The Experience in Birmingham! Of course I would discover this less than a week before it ends meaning I have no time to go. Oh well, just more reason to get round to organising that trip to Las Vegas. I just hope I don't end up missing the one there too. (I'm still sad that Star Trek: The Experience has closed, that would have been cool.)

And just in case anyone was wondering, I'm not reading my Friends List at the moment cos I haven't seen the finale of Bones and I don't want to be spoiled for any of it. (I am aware that I really should get round to watching it soon cos the longer I wait the higher the chances are that I'll come across a spoiler somewhere accidentally. It's happened before that I've been spoiled for something while reading something else that had nothing to do with it. But if I wait one more day I can watch it properly on TV so I'm going to take my chances and just avoid most of the internet until then. I'll play LOTRO instead!)

I've just watched the 100th episode of Bones:

Today was lovely and sunny and I could smell the flowers as I walked in to work.

Then I got to spend hours in a job that is steadily crushing whatever little spirit I have left by this point. Which isn't much.

So to make myself feel better I've spent money online and later I'm going to watch some DVDs. Probably more Dark Angel. I'd forgotten exactly how awesome Bling is and it's all coming back to me now. He's always there to call Logan out on his shit and he's such a Max/Logan shipper. I love him! I like to imagine him and Angela meeting up for coffee and talking about their idiot friends who just need to get it together already!

Pick five of your favorite shows, in no particular order, before you read the below questions, then answer them!

2. Prison Break
3. Battlestar Galactica
4. NCIS
5. How I Met Your Mother

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: WOOHOO! FOUR DAY WEEKEND!

And today being Thursday, that means Bones is on tonight! Yay! Of course there's also a new episode in America too and I'm going to have to be good and resist spoiling myself for it. This wasn't much of a problem before because I didn't have any other Bones fans on my flist, but that's changed now (yay!) and it's going to take more of an effort from me to avoid reading about it. Of course if I get really desperate I could always never even consider downloading the episode off the internet. Because that would be wrong.

Speaking of TV, I've also started re-watching Dark Angel on DVD. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be as good as I remembered but it so is. Unfortunately season two sucked monkey balls so I probably won't be buying that. As I mentioned in my Ships of the Noughties list, Dark Angel was one of those shows where season one was absolutely amazing and almost turned me into a complete wreck over the summer waiting to see what happened, only for season two to be a bitter disappointment.

AND AND! While I was watching the pilot I caught a glimpse of a guy and went "Is that Gaeta?" and it was! He looked absolutely ridiculous!

On the ear-front, I still can't hear properly and it is still very annoying and sometimes awkward. But the antibiotic drops seem to be doing their thing for the infection and my ears are nowhere near as painful as they were before, which is a Very Good Thing. On Monday the nurse took a swab of one of the ears to send off to see what the problem is and if we'd have to change the treatment and she told me to call today for the results. So after a lot of anxiety about having to use the phone, I called up only to find the results aren't back yet. Great. So I'll have to call again some time next week.

But for now I am going to enjoy the fact that it is Thursday and I don't have to work tomorrow. Which, considering how busy it was today, pleases me greatly. =D

So, the current [livejournal.com profile] picspammy challenge is Fifty and as I'm a big shipper I thought doing 50 Shippy TV Moments would be a good idea. I've never actually posted to the community before so I'm a bit nervous about this though.

Anyway, here's the picspam. I hope you like it! And if you disagree with any of my choices or think I've left any obvious ones out please say so in the comments.

This list came about because I was watching a programme about the greatest TV shows of the decade. It was a terrible list that made no sense and made me quite angry so I decided to write my own. But instead of TV programmes I decided to do pairings that I’ve supported from the past ten years. They bring me squee and sadness in equal measure yet I still ship my little heart out.

The Rules: For a ship to be included it must have existed, at least in part, during the ten years spanning 2000 to 2009. So ships from programmes that started in the nineties and ran into the noughties are ok, but ships from programmes that finished before 2000 are not, even if I discovered/continued shipping them in the noughties. (Sorry Maddie/David.)

Because there was no way I was going to be able to put these in order of preference (I love them all!) I’ve listed them in chronological order instead:

You have to be with the person you love. )
